Its just like Coles and Woolworths. If Pepsi Max were to disappear and everyone was forced to buy nothing but Coke Zero from now on there would be riots in the streets for months until it came back.

Australians when they like something they welcome it into their heart like the Pokies and VB. Same thing with the Territory and Falcon. When its taken away they ask, "why the hell did you take that away? It was nirvana."

Unless you sell them another Falcon or Territory and its called such they're not interested.

I guess you could say that Australians don't like being conned or tricked and think that they are all of the time. Frankly I'm one to agree with them, that they are being tricked and conned with the offerings by Toyota and Ford because i think they are, as you say the Avalon was a way to trick them.

I mean you can't fit a 4 foot fish tank into the back of any of the modern offerings but I'm sure you could give it a go in the back of a Territory.

And you can't tow with an Avalon.

Plus the Territory looks the part, it looks like a escalade but even better.

Who the hell would want an escalade/ford explorer in replacement of a Territory though.

And I was surprised that it would influence someone else making a decision about whether they buy a particular vehicle or not. But then, it's not something I've really thought about before either because it's not even on my radar as a factor.

It was just an observation, that's all.
That's because you are a car person 'enthusiast' - i'm no different if a car fits my criteria I'm not influenced by the name or brand.

You need to consider the general Public and what Ford need to do to get people to test drive their cars. calling it Endura does not help in my opinion.
you do know that a lot of cars are sold based on the infotainment systems now.

note but there are many 'enthusiasts' on here that would never consider a KIA because if the badge,

I'm sure if Ford tried it the motoring journos would jump on them pretty hard about bringing in cars from China.

Also Chinese market cars are usually built to a very low grade spec.

I have no doubt upon Terris demise IF we aussies got the 5th Gen Explorer (that looks great might I add) at the right price it would have been an easy transition imo.
Anyway it never happens, we being a small RHD market keep missing out from way back and whatever did eventuate ex Euro for eg was priced too high.
Our achilles heal now in the current economic climate Manufacturers are consolidating and all then our OTT ADR's, were up a creek without a paddle re Ford product range.

Yer I wouldn't rate anything ex China car wise, their attempts to date have been woeful Export wise with all the wealth and knowledge they have resourced incl so many OE westerners there ie many Ford Asia Pac management ones from here.
Nothing has transpired to date.
Ford in China can't even gain a decent footprint there.
I suppose we await the invasion and see.

When you see them in person they look deceiving. They have done a great job disguising it's bulk. But then you look down at the wheelbase. Then you realise how massive they really are. They dwarf a Territory. And are nearly as long as a dual cab Ranger.

I think it's the height that makes it look smaller than it is.

The Ford Endura a nice look piece of kit but the price is overs and the name is not ideal IMO but what you get for your hard earned vs what is out there no wonder they move less than mid 100s unit per month which is next to nothing.

I hope the palisade and its kia twin will make a case for the Explorer. Definitely would prefer it as a territory replacement than an endura or an Everest.

They will sell for approximately Half of what an Explorer would be if it came here.

You are right, only Chinese brands have exported out of China. I think Focus Active to USA was going to be the first until it was known it would be "Trumped" with a 25% tax.

When you compare the internal dimensions of the Endura with the Escape, there's not a lot of difference,
maybe that's the real reason why it's not comparable to the better value three-row SUVs that buyers want.

A vehicle like Endura is all about projecting a sporty perception, a 2.0 litre diesel doesn't do that.
It's just another example of us getting a version that was originally intended for Europe that never
worked there either. The diesel Edge has failed in Europe so it's original business plan was flawed,
how on earth was it ever expected to work in our tiny market. Ford's market research is so out of date
that by the time vehicles arrive, the market has already moved on, new Escape and Puma are interesting
but again, other manufacturers already have similar products out years in front and covering the segments.

Kudos to Ford for trying new things but it's like squeezing diamonds to get products that we take for
granted from other manufacturers, maybe that's the tell tale of problems with Ford in Europe,
they don't seem to match up well with buyer expectations there either.

I agree however check out the Lincoln Aviator, it fixes everything from the Explorer and goes up a level.... in price as well.

Wrong, Endura is about 6 inches wider across the back seat.

Try putting a baby seat and two adults in the back seat of an Escape, and then do it in an Endura / Edge.

I spent last weekend at West beach caravan park and noticed a couple of Endura's there, on the Sunday evening whilst sitting around the gas fire with a bunch of randoms i discovered one of them belonged to a couple and got talking about it as they are a good looking piece of kit.

One of the other people said they'd looked at them but thought they were poor value for money and bought a top of the range Sorento GT Line instead for the same coin as the ST Line, i asked if they needed the extra seats and they said no, but if your paying that kind of money why wouldnt you get them just incase not to mention at resale.
Fair points i thought so i did some googling and when you consider you get all the fruit, 2 more seats and the 7yr warranty for 10k less than Endura Titanium d.a. pricing, unless you were a brand snob, its a no brainer.

Yes its wider than the competition and supposedly handles much better ive said before its more of an Evoque competitor.

but very few have got their head around looking for an SUV than handles well.

I see above example where Everest is mentioned,

SUV's are the broadest segment now but some people lump it all into one..

Exactly, if you want to charge more then where is the point(s) of difference to justify or convince buyers.
I can think of a few but never offered here for whatever build/production/management/product planning/NFI reasons.

Hipo petrol V6 would have made it more powerful and faster than Kluger, CX-9, Kia and Hyundai.
Seven seat version only a China market model.
Cannot tow as much as a Territory so where do Terry owners update to?
Everest considerably more expensive than what Terry buyers paid, it's not as nice as an SZ and the Everest interior is a Ranger interior.
Terry dynamics crap on an Everest and maybe slightly better than an Endura except Terry is RWD biased.
And everything else is cheaper or offers more for the same coin...

I get your point but it's less than six inches, more like four inches extra hip and shoulder room.
The point I was making is that there's no compelling case for buyers to look at Endura and
100 sales last month seems to confirms that and most of those went to Ford's fleet....

Here's a test for you,
try putting a baby seat and two adults in the second row of an Everest or a Ranger,
I bet there's no more hip and shoulder room in either of them than an Escape
Mid-sized vehicles with the room of a compact,...........

Rubbish, stop deflecting, try putting a baby seat in the back seat of an Endura with two Adults, it’s fine 👍

OK, if that extra room is an essential difference between compact and mid-sized SUVs,
how come you can't do it in an Everest?

This as an olive branch, I fell in love with the 2009 Edge we hired in California.
We had two teenage boys in the back and there was plenty of room between them
so I can understand why anyone with a car seat would pick Endura over an Escape.

And two car seats would make it doubly so....

Might be some truth to the rumours, as a longer wheelbase 7 seater Escape is apparently in development.

Makes more sense than the Endura, having 7 seats and a much better choice of engines.

Remembering that Endura/Edge is Ford North America and Escape 5/7 seaters are Ford Europe.
What would have gone down better here was tge three row Edge but that is China only and nit RHD.
