Default How's this for a second vehicle

Greetings

I've been looking around at ways to help me save a little bit of money as well as the enviornment and came across this -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4VRhIQPrtg
Watch from 4:27 as it catches and overtakes 3 motorcycles and leaves them behind from a red light

It has a top speed of 80 kmph where most other bikes are around 30 kmph

It has a range of 80 km where most others are 30 km to 50 km

It recharges in two hours

And, best of all its design is such that the police won't be able to get you on radar. Here in Darwin our bike tracks have a speed limit of 20kmph

Unfortunately worst of all is the price - $10,000 without ticking any extras

Could not watch the video, but I assume the police would still be able to laser the bike. The way the laser works is that it sends a beam of light to the moving target. The light refelcts back and it works out how long it takes to get back.

unless teh bike is invisble you will get pinged by a laser.

Electric vehicles are the future, forget arguments about where the electricity comes from, it's still more efficient than a petrol powered vehicle. I'd happy drive one, though you would probably still see me at old age driving a 2-stroke wheelchair though a shopping centre, internal combustion while always be my favourite.

Pretty sure that in most states "electric" bikes arent allowed to go faster then 30kmh? (as opposed to scooters/ electric scooters which are registered).

And the claim about not being abled to lasered... what a load of ...

Australian eBikes are restricted to 200w motors other wise they cannot be risen on the roads.

my young brother had a go at making an electric bike, he bought a hub motor kit off ebay and installed it in the rear wheel, dunno how many watts it is , but pretty gutless really, top speed about 30 kph, gotta pedal off the start and up the hills to help it ......but he`s a pretty big dude and it`s on a fairly heavy mountain bike, a hub on the front wheel as well may have helped .............but this thing goes like a rocket compared to his.
i think you`d pedaling a fair bit before 80k`s was up, regardless that`s impressive.

Be a while before electric cars rule the roads.....And the way the electricity prices keep going , even at 10c a KW electric cars cost more to run let alone buy.

Cost of Various Fuels
Type Unit Cost $/Unit Cost $/Joule Uses
Electricity 1Kwh=3.6x10
6J
(3.6 MJ) $0.10 0.028 $/MJ =
2.8x10
-8 appliances, motors
Gasoline 1 gallon 2.00 0.013 $/MJ =
1.3x10
-8 transportation
Natural Gas 1 Therm 0.60 similar to gasoline heating
AA battery 1 battery 0.80 0.8 x 10
-3 portable electronics
Milky Way candy bar 1 bar 0.60 0.60/MJ = 0.6 x 10
-
6
food

(but note, although electricity is twice as expensive as gasoline per unit of energy, electric
motors are typically much more efficient than gasoline engines, so that electricity as a
fuel source can be competitive with gasoline).
