I can not remember a time when news of a halo version of any Ford product has been so downplayed by the usual pro Ford commentators, it's actually quite telling for the objective onlooker.

I heard they're still deciding whether to launch this or a 1.5l quad turbo and 18sp.

Surely the little 4 pot is the answer moving forward....downhill with a tailwind...

You know what’s even more hilarious about that?
Best selling 4x4 Ute in Australia.. and with premium pricing.
Looks like the 2.0 litre is not such a terrible choice after all.

But seriously,
If you asked any genuine Ranger buyer what two engines
would best cover the most buyers, the answer would be
a 3.0 V6 TCDI and a 5.0 V8 Coyote. If Ford has listened,
it could make a lot of money by giving people the engines
from the full sized F150.....

To be fair its not the only Ranger engine choice in that category, lost the final months title to its rival who is suffering from a well documented DPF drama and was beneficiary of ongoing discounting.
Too many variables.

Agreed, if the base was a TDi V6 then economy of scale would make the entry price not crazy.

FWIW (sorry a repost for some), I had the pleasure of hooning a Dodge Durango R/T (7 seats too) for 4 weeks and I was sold.

If they ever made a V8 Everest id be in, the 5.7 Hemi did well and FC was in the order of AVG 12-13 L/100. Like any good car it can go north quickly but the concept worked.

Part of me wishes they just made a run of XLT or alike so it didnt carry the Raptor premium but I can understand they need the extra margin and brand power. Just the na 5.0 would be fine.

So, will it set a precedent for following Raptors on the new platform?

You know I wonder if Ford started thinking of alternatives once F150 was completely ruled out, I gather they know that there’s a decen group of high series buyers out there that denied an $80k-$90k factory RHD F150 will now be there for the taking with the right engines in a Ranger, be that EBV6 or V8, the V6 diesel has to be a shoe in, especially if the Jag twin turbo version, a very nice piece of kit.

I would go as far as saying that adding a V8 to the Raptor would make it an entirely different vehicle to the 2 litre powered Raptor. I mean, it changes everything about how it is perceived to how it drives, sounds, and feels. Chalk and cheese.



Rspec at $100k was sold out in no time. I'd pay $100k for this over a blown Mustang.

and Let’s not forget that Ford had its own quality issues wit continental/Siemens injectors...

Agree that sales alone can be a misleading metric but as Ford fans, We can take heart that Ranger is maintaining good sales traction.

What-ifs and hypotheticals are for people that need to find criticism. Like the other day Whichcar published an article bagging Ford because IF... IF.... the Ranger wasn't selling so well Ford would be in just as bad a spot as Holden.

Guess what, Whichcar, Ranger is not only selling well, but is also one of the most profitable new vehicles on sale. Why? Because Ford Australia got it right., and they deserve its success. Instead of acknowledging and celebrating how great a job the locals did, they do what they do best and that publish sensationalistic rubbish.

It’s a sad pathetic game played by people trying to conjure a win for Holden. By removing Ranger and Colorado from sales results, they claim a win for Holden and go on and on about eggs in baskets.... A brain fart of the highest order.
Holden has more diversified sales portfolio for sure but it didn’t save them going out backwards. I feel for the brand and their supporters but Holden did this to itself.

The area of continuing concern for Ford is its poor sales of SUVs, that is the main issue to address pronto. From what I see it’s a mixture of higher prices and products that don’t connect with buyers who can get better value elsewhere. I think the Everest could do with more aggressive styling, get rid of the Ranger nose and offer engines that buyers want, might be worth trying a HP Everest to raise awareness.

I think Ford need to be careful not to put themselves into to much of a niche though.

Make a V8 Raptor by all means, but a luxo spec Ranger with a softer chassis tune with a V8 would also be as profitable IMO and spread the costs.

Surely Australia isnt the only country crying out for this.

That Durango I drove was not a rocket or 'Ring beater but any stretch of the imagination, but god it felt nice, planted and sounded epic all while I was on my way to pick up the groceries.

Everest Raptor makes next to no sense, a Titanium V8 on the other hand.....

Definitely agree. We are waiting to see the prices of the new Escape before we make the purchase. I'm hoping its competitve.

Some thoughts:
Asian Everests had the option of a different coloured interior more like the cashmere of the G6E/T and SZ which lifts the all-black dramatically.

Ranger proves Ford can sell a preimum priced product when the product actually sits at the top end of it's class....

Maybe Ford should start stating a rrp closer to real world transaction prices.

Everest is the car Ford pushes in it's range for 7-seat buyers yet all the bigger selling suv's for 7-seat buyers are more car-like, wider and obviously ride better so Endura doesn't meet buyer wishlists and Everest is more rock-hopper.

I think the Everest could do with more aggressive styling, get rid of the Ranger nose and offer engines that buyers want, might be worth trying a HP Everest to raise awareness.
New escape and puma will help. Escape hybrid will be an interesting addition. As will mustang mach e if it comes here.

Explorer, baby bronco and bronco would have been nice though. Hell, throw the expedition in there too.

If they want to be an suv company then they need to expand the suv range.
