I took the critique of xahh to heart, re the Aldi sausage rolls. Unfortunately they aren’t in my local shop - checked several occasions.

Instead I bought (on special, no less) a packet of Fry’s vegetarian sausage rolls. They do a mean schnitzel, so I’m expecting big things of these.

A couple of early morning stone quotes in Beechworth so its croissant's to take home for breaky with scrambled eggs. Two apple danish also jumped in the car for good measure.

Well, here's another one

My daughter passed through West Wyalong yesterday and couldn't resist (on my recommendation), the legendary Custard Long John from the Roundabout Bakery. She said that it more than met her expectations and was as full as a fat girls undies after the experience.

Good point but....

They are close cousins but the custard version is much bigger and more filling due to the donut base. The eclairs use that French Choux pastry that's quite light in weight and consequently not as filling.

A sure sign that you've got a decent Custard Long John in your hand is the sheer weight of the beast.

Not even sure they sell those here. I will have to investigate. I guess the closest thing here would a Bee Sting, only they 'are round split in two with custard between.

Bee stings are a little different too and contain honey. I absolutely love a good one of those, especially if it has the roasted almonds on top.

Looks similar to what meadows bakery call a 'honey log' except with custard instead of cream.

when we travel to bris (when not driving straight through but taking a couple of days) West wyalong would be perfect for afternoon tea, so will keep it in mind. won't be travelling that way for a while obviously.

Our little local bakery is run by Philipines born but now Australian citizen Evelyn ..Evelyn with the help of her father in law and son (since her husband and long time baker passed) provide our town of about 750- 800 if you include outlying "suburbs' of Cornwall, Irishtown and Gray and many tourists with old fashioned offerings , fantastic home made pies, pasties and cakes but ..........The cream horns made from pastry, cream and jam are ................. BEAUTIFUL. Geez they're good .

She doesn't have them every day because she makes them along with other similar products and mixes them up a bit but most weeks two days at least she has them. I have to buy two (one to eat straight away and one for that evening) and nearly always another one next day if there are any left . So addictive with real cream and real jam ...Love Evelyn's cream horns at St.Marys Bakery .

You'll see our Evelyn during part of this ABC News story from 2019...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94SQpiS_cb0.. She's a sweet person and a real identity here.

It wus suggested to me that this may interest those who enjoy a baked pig out here, especially Cav, who as most know is a lover of all things associated with the consumption of tucker......
What we have here below is a Bunya Nut Cookie; a specially of the Cafe on Bunya Mtn, Qld; now this cookie is about 2.5inches in dia & contains vast quantities of ground Bunya Nut. Half a nut is embedded in the middle of the cookie. It is unique:

It's a commercial bakery in a five star hotel so mostly bread and rolls, croissants, biscuits, small tarts of various varieties and macarons.

Once baked, it's immediately packaged up and stored. Every time I get near enough to snap a photo, the head baker gives me a glare that says back off in no uncertain terms.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Bundaberg Horehound was the best drink ever, does not taste that good directly out of the bottle but if you get a jug of ice and pour it in and drink it directly it changes the whole drink, it's just magic ! and good for you.
They do not make it anymore as the idiots only make lolly crap now.

The same when baking there are tricks to making something so much better than what others try to make. my mum is Danish and boy could them Danish make such things so good and nowadays you have them snails that you see are baked at Cols or others, well they are just crap truly shocking to the real Danish ones that were made.
Back in 1987 in Darwin I ate the best hotdog in my life, it was a Danish dudes shop, the fresh bun and the taste of the snag was just magic.
Aussie hotdogs I cringe.
Aussie Kebabs are shocking rubbish as well, I go look for the Arabs making them any day.
I am not surprised when Australians end up making crap bland tasteless food. we had a real nice Italian place and when there kids took it over it became rubbish. it's the way it's cooked ! you add some things at just the right time and keep an eye on it, not just bash everything together like food for a dog.

Nah, I'm not a that big on pies. I don't eat out much as far as takeaway style foods go, and when i do its more sweet than savoury.
