Default How much have you spent on your car recently...and what did you do to it!

Hey Guys,

Just getting my car back today from my trusted mechanic...i thought id start up a thread so we can see what people do and what they spend on their cars, and what they have planned to spend on next.

Car: ED Falcon Futura V8

Spent: $1500 on entire new suspension, castor/camber kits, every single bush replaced.

Spent: $1530 on 4x new disc rotors, pads, bearings, new handbrake cables, abs sensor.

The thing now handles and brakes much better than before!

Next on the list: some 17" wheels!

$68 - Full tank of BP Ultimate

Tyres are looking like a few thousand left.. And there is the parking dint repairs to save for.

PS:

Completely forgot.. Popped down to PWS smithfield for replacement wheel centre cover. $16.50 under half of what I was quoted at another dealer.
Hopefully the budget will improve...

$2300 in Jan for some upgrades/repair. I upgraded while I was there.

Guestimating my finishing $ for my current mods this month to be somewhere around $4500-$6000. In parts alone theres $3500 so far. Still have a tailshaft and exhaust to go.

I keep a rough eye I $ but a prefer to not dwell on it. I just like going fast.

I had to get 4 new Pirelli P6000s @ $135 each to pass my rego. :P Brakes are a bit thin too, so I'll do those in the next few weeks as well.

I rang this place in S.A. that i had came accross in Just Parts mag. I really thought when I asked them how much for a VCT and 5 speed conversion would cost they would answer with the sum of about 7-8k but they quoted me 4k 2-3 days and I could keep my old engine and trans. They told me they worked on the theary of high turnover low profit.

So i booked my car in and went to Adelaide for a weeks holiday while my car was worked on.

While there i asked if i could trade my engine, trans and old diff on a rebuilt LSD and they aggreed.

Long story short it took alot longer than 3 days but they flew me back to melb offered to pay for a rental car and payed for my car to transported back to melb. As much as it was frustrating that I didnt get my car back for about 3 weeks I have to give the guys credit as they got stuffed around by alot of people but they wouldnt send my car back til it was rite. No thanks to Ford Aus, Ford would not help them in any way. Ford told them to go to their local dealer but they had already done that and they could not get it running rite. They ended up getting onto some fella in NSW who told them what the go was and *shebang* it was done The guys did tell me that if they were going to do it again it would be 8+k.

In the end i got the VCT engine, 5 speed box, new xr6 clutch, LSD, Brand new wiring loom, Brand new ECU. plane trip, alot of stress all for 4k. and i would'nt do it again. Oh and shortly im going to need new rear tyres.LMAO

Well, I've had my bad boy for 11 months now. It's a white 1994 EF 4.0 Gli auto. I bought it with 280,000 k's on it. I paid $4,200 as is. I have since spent:

$300 - new rear suspension bits
$1200 - Head Gasket, inlet manifold gasket, head machined and all new hoses(except for the one that blew.
$3,500(ish) new head, ACL race pistons, crow cam, a few other nice internals and a full rebuild because the ****er who did the head 10,000 k's ago decided not to replace the stuffed hose.
$50 - King Lows all round
$1600 - wreck to supply parts
$350 - labour to service and install auto from wreck
$700 - stero install - included cd player and 2 speakers
$550 - cruise control
$500 - manual ea so I could do a 5-peed conversion
$100 - parts and extras needed when fitting the 5-speed
$500 - manual ea so I could replace the 5-speed I blew up from the previous ea
$20 - cheap, crappy alarm since removed
$60 - gear knob and boot so the ea 5-speed looks like it should be there
$60 - door lock for drivers door

that's all i can remember now, there is also insuarance(till i got it hard modified and installed a cam - long story), rego, fuel, lots of fuel.

$230 for a towy pulling the ghia off the side of the road on a 45 angle. So it's not a rally car :( at least there is bugger all damage could have been 1000x worse if I hadn't been able to drift it through the middle of a basically 1 lane bridge : ****ing graders not going to the edges :gren:

It sucks being charged for accident towing. It aint cheap. I had to pay the same when I pulled mine out of a ditch when the trans failed.

Took half the morning to pull the sucker out, damn heavy thing. Looks like refitting the front bar tonight it's slightly off.
