Hi all I've just joined up hoping to get some info on my new ride .
I've just picked up a one owner XC 302 Fairmont Coupe. It has'nt been driven for three years and has very little fuel in it , can anyone tell me what I should run it on ? Thanks |

Hey mate, welcome to the forums. Not sure about what fuel you should run in it, but just a little suggestion, I would be taking the fuel tank out and checking for rust, and if there is any, get it acid dipped. Don't want any rust flakes going through your engine now do you. Trust me, happened to my nissan, was not a good thing.

Drain the tank as best as possible and put in new fuel, unleaded is OK if you use an additive for top end lubricant.
Make sure you have a couple of fuel filters in line to pick up any clap before it gets to your carby then into your engine. When you drain the tank you will know staright away how dirty it is in there by what comes out. If you think it maybe pretty dirty inside the tank then do what Miller says to be sure. Good luck.

Being an XC it probably would have been designed to run on leaded petrol. In that case, wouldn't it be better to run it on 98RON petrol? That is what we put in the XE along with the valve saver/flash lube additive.

Thanks for the info. I'll pull the tank out and give it a clean and run some 98 with flashlube and see how I go.

yeah definately dump any fuel there and wash the tank with some new fuel, a mate got a XP that had been sitting for years,filled it up, it ran all day then wouldnt start the next day, the dried up fuel in the tank had left a residue that was dissolved by the new fuel, this 'gummy' fuel ran through the lines, which was ok till he stopped it, the 'gum' dried on his valves and 2 of them stuck,bending pushrods etc.
i'd run 95 or 98 with valve lube, although i'm sure you could leave the lube till you've got it all up and running (my opinion) so yeah clean the tank then run some fuel through the lines using the fuel pump squirting into a bucket, just dont smoke while doing this perhaps... scott |
