Default Holden looks set to secure a billion dollar export program

Holden looks set to secure a billion dollar export program and get the Chevrolet Camaro muscle car in return.

Charismatic General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz has today confirmed Chevrolet's interest in the Holden Commodore as a "four-door Corvette" sports model in the USA and also revealed the new Camaro muscle car is likely to be sold in Australia.

Lutz's confirmation of Chevrolet's interest in the Commodore backed up GM North America boss mark reuss...............

This is great for Holden and the Aussie car industry - if it is true - but you watch the media circlejerk over this one, and Ford's Falcon/Mustang merger announcement will get conveniently lost in the noise.

I remember a few years back (2003 I think), there were discussions of Corvette becoming its own brand. A couple of cars that were aparently going to go under this banner was the GTS coupe and sedan.

Good luck with that, with the AUD being so high against the USD. That and the GFC were the reasons it didn't workout last time (mainly the GFC), but our dllar is higher now than it was then.

I don't know about it happening or not.

That sounds right as my father in law's 2004 C5 Z06 CE has only 1 cheverolet reference and that is "corvette by cheverolet" on the dash's digital readout upon starting, The newer C6 has the readout and GM badge on the front side of rear wheel arch.

Though the idea of the commodore being under the banner would have been strange, as werent the GTS using the callaway engines then? if it went ahead they may have just put the 400/400 LS6 (c5 zo6 motor) in.

I'll vote rhetoric. Even if it did go ahead, chances are it would be made in Canada, especially given their holding in the company.

Great news for Holden though, as long as it all goes ahead.

GM/Holden must have a bucket full of somewhat might be true stories they can grab out during Fords unfortunate moments to double up the damage. They really are the masters of the media, you have to give them that

Don't forget Zeta platform cars are now made in China and Korea...the economies of scale from those two operations (and the markets they will eventually supply) will be huge compared to here.

So true, this is the purpose. Motor magazine will run this page 3, like they have the cop cars and every other announcement. The GMH PR team are 1st class.

Although somehow my company car is now a fully sick 4 door door corvette :

Even IF that were true. They would still have to be operating in Australia for 24 more years after Ford had gone to be the longest running car company.

Ford = Australian made since 1924
General Motors Holden = Australian made since 1948

It wasn't Ford that took the $200M AUD secret loan in 2008 to stay afloat in Australia. IT was General Motors Holden.

It wasn't Ford US that took $60B USD of American taxpayer money and shafted creditors & shareholders many times that when entering bankruptcy last year. It was General Motors.

Ford Oz is running at capacity and is turning a profit, increasing market share and investing heavily in near term driveline updates.

The kind of negative s*it pulled on Ford yesterday is exactly that. Then the media come out and run this positive 'spin'.

General Motors Holden = Automotive equivalent of the NSW Labor Party. Unfortunately, too many are just like typical NSW voters and accept the spin, spin, spin.

Holden made a smaller loss, but Ford cut more costs.

But FordAPSA turned a profit in the last two quarters.
