Default Cops are tops.

No front P plate
Back number plate wasnt visible due to towbar
Was wearing thongs
P plate that was on, wasnt visible and was in the wrong spot
Speeding 15km over the limit

He handed me a p plate rule book and let me off from over $500 worth of fines and loss of points. What an awesome copper.

Yeah what is the go with that? Is it illegal to wear thongs while driving?

I've been wearing them from the day I got my learners and it would be un-australian to have a law like that.

In NSW they dont like them, he said it and my driver instructor told me that when I was on my L's. Anyway, there were 5 cars in front of me and I was going as fast as them, he even said so. Since my cars on MPH and I usually go as fast as everyone else. I was just the one between them and him.

That feeling of those lights flashing in your car definatly isnt a good one.

I really dont see why we MUST wear close-toed shoes. I love driving with barefoot.

Yeh, dont go to Campbelltown the Appin way.

I did have barefoot, but put the thongs on to get out. Im thinking maybe because I have had no driving offence in over 4 years that he let me go, im not really sure.

Yeah its good when the cops are reasonable and show that its not just revenue they're after. When they give you a good little talk and respect you at the same time, it goes a long way with getting people to heed...

I've been let go a few times and felt more obliged to stick with the road rules than when I was unreasonably booked..

Im not sure, the blinding light in my face didnt let me see much of him. Funilly enough on the way back home, I got pulled over for an RBT, I passed it and he had a go about my P plates just like the other cop but didnt beleive that Id been pulled over before about it by the highway patrol. I showed him the P plate book I was given and he acted like I carried it around as an excuse. Maybe that was Mr Weir.

Ahh, yeah that's exactly what it means. It's illegal if you are P plater to not display your Ps so technically that makes you a criminal. I don't understand why people don't. I know, cops pick on P platers yada yada. I always dispalyed my P plates and for the first year and a half I owned a lowered V8 XA coupe with a loud exhaust and was pulled over a whole 2 times! And one of those was only because of all the oil smoke it puffed out the exhaust. So there must be more to it than just displaying a couple of red (or green or white depending on state) plates.

Falcon Phill it sounds like you were lucky. Dunno about the laws re the thongs, I think they just frown on wearing unsuitable shoes for driving, it's not illegal I don't think. I thought driving with bare feet was ok.

I had no idea that driving with thongs were illegal. Is it in the rule book?

Ok lets get this right. Thong in Australia is one of a pair of thongs, the things you wear on your feet. It does not and never will mean a g-string in Australia.

I know you were just having a joke but by using it with a different meaning, you are destroying the image of an iconic Australian footwear.

Nope, I learnt that from a few other posts on this forum. I just agreed with everything he said and told him it was my fault.

I was under the impression that improper footwear (thongs) could interfere with the operation of the pedals like getting caught underneath them etc...... However, I hung up my thongs when my wife threw away my flannos.... bloody women.
