Default I was gunna buy this and I couda got that!

There seems to be a few gunners here (like me!) with hard luck stories on not buying this and that when we had the chance!

What's your hard luck story! no fibbing! This is a respectable Pub!

I've got 2.

1] sold my HG monaro for $400 cause the gearbox was playing up and also there was rusting forming in the lower rear quarters!

2] As mentioned elsewhere, wife's cousin bought his 70 HO from new.
It was in poor condition with torn seats, faded paint, etc but he did drive it from Narre Warren to Tullamarine for a Sunday drive to show it to me.
I let it go for $9,500.00. He sold it shortly after for 11,500.00.

Mint, unrestored XR GT years ago that went for about $8,000. An original (bar gearbox) XW GT that I could have bought for $14,000 and let go and a Mk1 GT Cortina that my Dad restored that I was 'gunna' buy for under $5000 and never did. All these 'gunnas' were back in the mid 90's and man am I kicking myself now! I never went through with the GT purchases as Dad thought at the time the Muscle Car market would never pick-up and I'd blow my money.....

Was looking a an EB XR8 sprint about 6 years ago, but made the fatal mistake of telling the mechanic how much was on it. He brought it the same day. Only $3000

ive got 3 i really regret not getting...
first one was a fairly mint 302 ZG Fairlane for $700. bronze wine with white roof. beige or white (cant remember) bench seats/column auto, just a perfectly straight nice looking car..

seccond was an XB Fairmont wagon, same deal, 302, bronze wine, had full electrics including tail gate..$900. wasnt as mint as the ZG but was still quite nice

last one which i regret the most i think, was a jag XJ6 like this one for a grand..
http://jaguarxj6.net/wp-content/uplo...jaguar-xj6.jpg
had a blown motor, but was absolutley mint condition otherwise... it came wth a conversion kit to fit a chev in the price...all i would have had to do was get an engine....
ive seen it around recently and the guy has ruined it.....dents and scratches everywhere, big hole in the bonnet for a tall air cleaner(why you would i dont know) and just generally run down

Around 1986 or 1987 I perused the Trading Post and found an XC Cobra going for around 5.5K. I really wanted it and could have stretched to it but my XA GT had lot long before been stolen and my paranoia levels were up. A few months later it came up again but my mindset was "I'm not meant to have cars like that" and passed up on it.............

.......... it being XC Cobra #009!!!!!!!

Still kicking myself................

we still argue about it today, it'd probly be worth $80,000+ ........

in 1995, i had a xt as my daily driver, i'd been saving for an xr gt & came across one after i met the future misses. we'd been going out for awhile & were getting serious, came across one at the geelong all ford day for 14000, 2nd owner, decided not to go ahead as we were looking at a house or land. few months later we found a block in inner melbourne for 70000 & grabbed it, as i was working in sale (country vic) at the time i wentback to work for the week & on a drive to maffra went past the ford dealer who had a xt gt done up as a rally car for sale. popped in for a look & thought the asking price of 19000 was a bit steep for this gt rally car. let it go not really knowing at the time about the london to sydney marathon, so imagine my shock a couple of years later when i saw the factory xt gt's with the kag 001 002 & 003 plates & realised the xt i looked at was one of them....stupid stupid man, more recently passed on a chance to buy a 1 owner xc falcon 500 with 250.000 on the clock for 3 grand & put that towards the ba xr .

About 2 years ago I was about buy an XE Chaser, yellow with black front bar. 9 Inch Detroit locker diff, top loader gearbox, original block rebuilt with goodies... I think it was around $5500...

I had told the seller that I would come out to put a deposit on it that night, 1/2 hour later he takes an online money transfer and sells the car...

I wasn't happy!!!

in 2000 went to check out a xc cobra, mint body engine out to be rebuilt, spare nos guards and interior asking 10k. Thought about it on the way home and decided against it as we'd just bought a 1990 celica for the mrs. The reason for not buying ? The celica would have had to be parked outside as we only had a single garage. True that was the reason.
Thanks for this thread reminding me of my stupidity.

I have to mention that the mrs's celica got the boot 4 years later as a trade in for a AU XR8 III. Wild car and just loved it. She then writes it off 1 year later and I bought a 99 Camry as a replacement.

I missed out on a few nice cars just before i could drive, missed out on a mint XB John Goss for $6000, a 6cyl XE ESP for $2000!, a mate of my dad was selling his mark3 Zepher, it was knacked but had an excellent body, i was gunna do that up but missed it by about a week, then there was a standard XR in a small dealership and they only wanted $4500 for it, needed the interior fixed but that was it, was strait, rust free and cheap, i missed out on that by a day! had been sold the morning before i went in to take it!, but oh well you live and learn!

Sold a HRD Vincent black shadow cafe racer that I spent 2 yrs building for $1800 around 1978.

And sold "MY429" which was a red & white 56 cusso with 4v 429ci, C6, 9" etc etc in 1980 to buy an engagement ring!

Dumped a pre-unit 650 Triumph Bonneville in a ditch when it lost oil pressure.
Turned down an offer to buy the house I was renting in Caringbah NSW 20 years ago. Wonder what a quarter acre block is worth there now.
Still, after reading some of the other posts I don't feel so bad.
