Hey all,
Been looking at buying an escort for a while now, but I've run into a couple of problems and was just after a bit of advice... I've been watching a car for a while now, 1976 FORD ESCORT XL 2 Door 2L Pinto According to add its had a bit done to it, etc, looks like its in good condition from the photo's, however he's asking "reasonable offers above 6k" does this seem a bit high? Here's a link to the add Carpoint Add Would also appreciate any tips on what to look for if i go look at the car? I know all the various rust spots, differential and gearbox, suspension, etc problems as my dad used to rally them, however he never really used the Pinto 2l engines so we're a bit unsure about what to look for on the engine? Also, anyone got tips for insurance? Or is it just a given that you're going to be paying a bomb for comprehensive? (19yr old and on provisional license) Cheers in Advance, Nic |

well it looks like a nice car, and in good shape, but..
7k? no. way too much to be honest. engines are pretty good, fairly bulletproof. insurance wise, check out GIO. they do a classic/historic insurance for cars over 30years old. real good prices.

Any idea what a "fair" price for the car would be? just considering giving him an offer and seeing what happens, car's been advertised for at least a month or so i think so he's probably wanting to sell it by now |

its hard to say what a 'fair' price is. i guess everyone has their own idea.
but id say, for a good condition mk2 2dr 3-4k MAX.. you can still pick up decent genuine mk2 RS for around the 5-6k mark, cheaper again if you dont mind doing a bit of work. just keep watching ebay for cheap ones.

by looking at the add & pics you can read that it has been used as a club car for some sort of motorsport - blue triangle on bonnet, harness points, different seats.
The pics may not do it justice, if you can, go have a look at it, I dont think this one is a standard car by a long way, (1976 Escorts didnt come with 2ltr's in Aust) all the work might have already been done??, it does look tidy, a good 2 door is hard to find these days fair price - who knows these days??? |

Considering the prices of 2 doors on all the other websites it's not too bad. It's a little less then average
