Unhappy I sold the wagon :(

I thought Ill put it on carsales today..So I did around 530 pm. By 545 I had a buyer ring me. It had a flat battery so I jumpstarted it and in 20 minutes the guys came down to take a look. Nice fellows they were 2 brothers. I let them drive it up woodville Rd and they were gentle with it.I said to them pull into the side street so I can show them . Ok I took off in first gear and planted the beast with its roaring exhaust withing 3 seconds the words were...we will buy it!!
They went and got the money paid like gentleman and it seems the wagon will be getting a supercharger in its new life... I watched it drive away with that amazing exhaust and it was like I just married a child off and its not coming back:( My xr6turbo is a quick car and the turbo boys might talk up their cars but that wagon on the street had it all over them. Just hitting the accelerator and watching iot kick down going ballistic in acceleration was my last good bye...
As they left all the memories flooded back as they babied it up the road..
a tear came to my eye until I saw the cash in my hands...it eased my pain but god I loved that car......

if its the one in your signature, then 3k was bloody cheap for an au wagon i would have thought...

but i know the feeling watching the loved car disappear up the road... last weekend i sold my ef ghia. the first time id ever heard the v8 rumble from outside the car was when the buyer drove it home. and the way the morning sun glistened off the nice clean straight panels, damn near bought a tear to my eyes too.

and now i have an au III.

Now I thinking about the turbo car...might be time to turn it up to get the turbo guys and their tuners to put some work in. Theyve had it too easy hiding behind boost increases to sing their praises

Quick and clean sale, best ending for your beast Stav. Sounds like its new owners will have some fun as well. I reckon your build thread will have a long life on the forum showing others what can be done with an AU (and a wagon to boot LOL)

It's all about price.
If it ever takes you more than about 2 or 3 weeks to sell a car, you have simply not met the market with your price.
It really is as simple as that.

Sad to see it go Stav, but sometimes they need to go to make way for bigger and better things. I know how you feel though, it hurts as you know the new owner would not appreciate fully what you did with that car.

oddly enough, I had a closer look at a G6E and G6ET just this morning.

I won't be buying new and even though I much prefer the G's over the F's I wasn't left with a mad urge to get on and replace the AU :(

Oh well, time will tell...

Good luck with it Stav. (As a by the by, I used to travel Woodville Rd a lot. I grew up just off Campbell Hill Rd at Chester Hill. Those were the days... no radars and a car that was quicker than anything the plods had, lol....)

Ron yes... I remember those days too.
If I had the room I would have kept it but that's life . The fg is a nice car to drive with nice power too and truth be told I needed something a bit newer for work. It had nothing to do with the fact they can make around 330 rwkws and pull 11 second quarter miles.

Don't worry to much Stav, the old banger was getting pretty ratty anyhow.
It served you well for many years but it was time to go.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the new ride, but I do have a question for you....

What made you jump to a much newer model, rather than look at say a T3 - TE or TS?
I suspect you could have had a low k unit for less than the $$ you paid for the XR6T.

Not that there's anything wrong with what you have, I'm just interested in what made you gravitate towards a later model when you were fairly into the A series cars (like many of us are).

Yes mate it did get a bit ratty. The reason for the move to the fgxr6t was the fact that when I drove it ..it went pretty good. I love a v8 but have always been into the six as I know how to work on them pretty much. The FG is just an AU dohc with turbo. I love the AU but I wanted to get inside something different too for a change. If I am going to mod it the bang for buck is also alot better.

Ive had it since around 2003. It sounded animal to say the least and still was very exciting to drive. The 3 inch xorst ..lumpy cam and 6400 odd rev limit had a prescence on the street which was unique ...I loved it but..life goes on ...
The thing is now I have the new toy and I am seeing the bs about modding them too so I am a bit reluctant to do anything to it. If anything I wont make the same mistakes as with the wagon and so I will be tuning it myself when the time comes first time around.I mean lets face it who else is crazy enough to tune a car every week doing tweaks for 3 years in a row lol...

The au was a far better car than fg. Time will give a better picture but the amount of things that have been fixed on my fg with 66k on the clock are starting to bug me
