hi
anyone know of a decent mechanic who has experience in these cars a/c not working and i am told its electrical any thoghts cheers Rob |

Considering its electrical, would you be after an auto electrician moreso than a straight mechanic ?

That aside, from my experience with this model car (the HB - HD series), as much as I don't like using dealerships due to their extra cost, I've generally found that they are often able to pinpoint and then fix a problem more effectively than a local mechanic who may not be used to working on this relatively uncommon vehicle. And in this case may be worthwhile to just bite the bullet and pay the extra to have a Ford dealer look at it.
Just my thoughts on the matter ....

thanks for the replies
you arte probably right that i need an auto elec maybe ford might be the go a/c joint tells me its a thermostat under the dash? that doesnt make sence to me |

Well that could be right, some of the parts of a car's air conditioning system do sit behind the dash. Although thats the extent of my knowledge on this subject I'm afraid .... I usually leave anything this technical and complicated to the professionals.

ford say its the compressor you think after 2 day in the a/c specialists shop they would have found this
also bottom rad hose is leaking any ideas where to get one aftermarket ford want $995 to change it |

Eeeek ! For a new compressor fully installed including parts and labour, in my experience if one can get it done from under 1k thats not bad going.
Trying various ford wreckers may be an option to find the parts you're after, or maybe these places that do exchange service may be worth a go (although I have no idea who these companies are). May be worth putting up a wanted advert on this site - http://www.autoparts.com.au/viewparts.asp - I've found this to be a quick response resource for finding parts, and you don't need to be a member of the site either. At the end of the day I guess it all depends how long you plan on keeping the car for. Personally, my HC series mondeo is starting to feel quite a tired little car despite it being well looked after, so I suspect I won't be keeping mine for too much longer.
