Default 1970 Ford Capri "super roo"

Hi fellas,

Bit of background first up - my friend past away last away last year and his wife has tasked myself and my father in law with getting his 1970 Capri up and running and over the pits so we can all enjoy it as a weekend car.

Now I've always loved this car, my father had a 3L V6 when I was growing up in NZ which he would race at the port Street races.

Now for the tricky part, my knowledge base on the platform is nil. This is meant to be a 3L GT "Super Roo", my question is how do I figure out if this is correct, or if someone has just chucked a decal on and put some bonnet pins on.

As for the mechanical side, we have pulled the master cylinder off so we can rebuild with fresh seals, pulled the front brakes and discs off (which were vented discs, not standard until the mk.3?). It's running quite nicely but once we can stop it nicely, we will be going over the pits for the real "to-do list"!

I'm just looking for a bit of a hand really, what should we be looking for, and what do we actually have!

Thank you team, I will attach photos once I can!

Hi mate, start with researching engine-chassis numbers. Am sure there will be some "experts" here to help!

Thanks mate! I'll jump on the desktop tonight, I think it will be easier to navigate!

With a quick bit of research I can see the data plate is telling me it is a 3L GT with the GT 4pd box so off to a good start. Thanks again mate you will see me pop up on the other forum!

The model number on the ID plate for a 1970 GT V6 Capri will be 13018.

Going by the compliance plate:
  • September 1970 build
  • 3.0 litre V6 GT Capri, manual gearbox
  • Standard height suspension (you could order ‘Country’ height for a little extra ground clearance)
  • Yukon Yellow paint
  • Black vinyl trim

The Super Roo stickers went on all the GT V6 Capris unless you ordered them without (you could specify no side stripes, blackout paint, etc for a plainer car - normally referred to as a Delete options car).

Looks nice. I’d need to fully inspect the car to confirm it is what the plate says, but from what I can see in the pictures it seems genuine. A good 1970 gtv6 is the only car missing from my line up, if it ever comes up for sale 😉

Sorry to hear about your mate, hope you all enjoy driving it in his memory.

Cheers
Jamie

Thank you mate, wealth of knowledge this place is already.

I appreciate the kind words! And I think his wife is keeping his fleet which is great, although the other two cars I'm neither here nor there on (VL something rather and a VE ss)

I will jump on and create an account on that forum also, I really appreciate the information so far, I am very very excited to jump into this project and cannot wait to get some smiles per hour out of it!

Cheers, Nath.

Thanks man, appreciate the words!

And the VL is just a stock as a rock Berlina, motor and auto had a freshen up. I'm not sure what his plans were for it but at the moment its just sitting in the other garage under a cover. We'll get to it one day, but it's straight as a judge and dry as a robbers dog so it's safe and sound for the next wee while!

Cheers, Nath.

Am thinking if the VL is a 3lt, it may make it pretty sort after. Any mint VL would have a keen following though.

VE SSs are holding their resale value quite well too.

hi
from what I understand the GT nameplate was a UK export vehicle nameplate . In the UK there are model listings above and below GT spec l
Most parts available in UK , in ozzy parts are reasonably hard to find and costly .
