The latest casualty to the soft SUV craze.

Vale one of the last affordable wagons.

"The axing comes as Australian Design Rule 98/00 comes into effect, mandating autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems that meet specific technical requirements across all new vehicles on sale"

There's that AEB ADR again.

I wish they had a Mazda 6 MPS awd wagon with a tweaked version of the 2.5L turbo petrol engine. I reckon they would've sold really well. But alas, another great Mazda model gone.

I am not surprised as the current model has been on sale for about 12 years. Well overdue for replacement.

Mazda EZ-6 wagon is possibly coming to Australia.
The Bavarian Boys are still offering a 3 Series Wagon.
As far as I can see everything else is VW based which I wouldn't touch.

VW owns Skoda. VWs drive really well when they are knew but they are not built for longevity.

Its been culled, but apparently Mazda Au has secured a decent amount of stock so should still be new stock available at dealers... In GT/Atenza form with the 2.5 turbo they are a decent drive... One thing I wouldnt be able to get over is the fact the MZD Connect interface is basically the same as the one in my 2015 model that I owned, just with carplay added... IN saying that though, will be well built and reliable..

Otherwise drive an Oktavia. If you can swing the RS your essentially getting Golf GTI running gear..

Geez. Around $100K for a 330i wagon against $45K for a Mazda 6.
There's only so much overtime I can do.

I've tried to avoid the SUV craze.
I guess the question here is:
Anyone had experience with Skoda Octavia wagons ?

Yes same coy VW bought Skoda.
However
A lot of the Skodas and Vws now use an eight speed torque converter auto not the can be trouble DSG.
Skodas use VW tech/mech from 1/2 model types behind VW latest so tend to have bugs worked out
Skodas built in Skoda factories not all but most
Skoda -7 year warranty/ulimited kms
Skoda-fixed cost service plans available for 3/5 /7 years

I had a 2020 Fabia wagon which was a tough value reliable nugget until it got rammed in the rear on the motorway by a Raptor and written off.

The Octavia is miles better than that a nice rig.

Im considering one of these as a daily myself. Either the Superb, Octavia or bump to the Kodiaq if I need to tow. Prefer a wagon though. Getting harder to find a good, classy one with out the battery/hybrid engines. Especially new under 80k

Octavia RS worth getting into BUT I sure wouldn't discount the Mazda 6 because its dis continued.
Its not like you'll be forgotten for service and the new car WTY and post.
In fact I'm sure you'll end up getting a good run out deal worth looking into.

I know they use the old MZD connect infotainment system. Its a pity they didnt upgrade to the latest system you see on the CX3/5's. Its hands down a massive upgrade. I would've considered the 6 wagon if it werent for that. Just a personal gripe

I'm not fussed about it, as long it has DAB and connect to my phone I'm fine with that. Considering I drive a XB ute most times.

The current generation has aged very well, it still looks fresh. And compared to some cars that don't necessarily get better with facelifts, the 6 seemed to evolve very nicely. Compare that to the previous model with the stupid smiley face thing, well that dated very quickly.

New Octavia/Superb come with DSG but if you buy new its a 7yr warranty so fine for those with the funds to buy new. Second hand, older, out of warranty versions I would tread with caution.

No the inline 6 is reserved for the CX?? range. Even the new generation CX5 will be hybrid of some description or BEV from what I have read. Doing away with the petrol turbo 2.5.

The 6 wagon only came in a NA 2.5L and turbo 2.5L. I reckon if they had of produced even the MHEV 3.3L turbo 6 in wagon format, these would have sold like hot cakes. Mazda's vision is to try and aim for the prestige market and nab a few german owners into their cars while saving some dollars. I still think they are 5 years away from doing that with any real significance.
