My driver's door lock stopped working. The shaft had broken off the nylon gear in the electric actuator mechanism.
Can you buy the gear?  : You can a new door lock mechanism for $169.Will the wreckers sell you just the motor assembly that easily unscrews from the door lock mechanism? : So I bought a passenger side mechanism, $110, 'cos that was the only one they had. I removed the gear and fitted it into the old assembly. At least I did not have to pay someone to do the installation. I do understand about not breaking up assemblies, about on-costs and about inventory issues but $110 for a plastic gear still, as Kath and Kim say, gets up my goat. Thanks EA2BA,
but in the words of Maxwell Smart "I asked you not to tell me that". That post certainly gives a good coverage of the issue and I will check out the metal gear option in the future. I guess we still have to buy an assembly but the metal gear should then outlast the car. I did consider pinning the shaft and gear together but I am not real good with precision work.
