Default Part-ing With Cash

My driver's door lock stopped working. The shaft had broken off the nylon gear in the electric actuator mechanism.

Can you buy the gear? : You can a new door lock mechanism for $169.

Will the wreckers sell you just the motor assembly that easily unscrews from the door lock mechanism? :

So I bought a passenger side mechanism, $110, 'cos that was the only one they had. I removed the gear and fitted it into the old assembly. At least I did not have to pay someone to do the installation.

I do understand about not breaking up assemblies, about on-costs and about inventory issues but $110 for a plastic gear still, as Kath and Kim say, gets up my goat.

(PS Please do not now tell me where I could have picked up this gear for $5.00)

Thanks EA2BA,

but in the words of Maxwell Smart "I asked you not to tell me that".

That post certainly gives a good coverage of the issue and I will check out the metal gear option in the future. I guess we still have to buy an assembly but the metal gear should then outlast the car.

I did consider pinning the shaft and gear together but I am not real good with precision work.
