Default Damn those kooky Germans! - Need Help if you can.

OK long story short.

My GF owns a Barina (Opel Corsa) like this one.

Very good car, but, this is just weird. I let the fuel run very very low, my bad I know but I was going to get around to it. Then we had a couple of really hot days and I think the heat evaporated what little fuel there was left.

So I got on my pushy and put in ~9.5L of fuel. Tried to start it but no go. It gets close and wont kick over, starter motor is working.

The other week we lost the original key, but ill come back to that.

So now it is down at the closest garage getting a service. But they cant start it either. He called me and asked if I still had he original key, I say no as I just lost it about a week ago.

Apparently this is not good as there is some kind of security feature on that key fob, and the car wont start because its not reading that key.

So what I am trying to figure out is whether this is a true story, or whether the garage just cant find out what is wrong. They pulled out an error code which apparently says it needs that original key. How bizarre is that! What if like us, you were silly and lost the original!

I said that it could be the fuel pump..but they dont think so.

Anyway, anyone heard of this, and since when does a fairly cheapish car have this feature!
