Transport and Main Roads data shows six new fixed speed cameras deliver record return of $350,274 in speeding fines every day
by: Robyn Ironside From: The Courier-Mail March 17, 2012 12:00AM THE rollout of six new fixed cameras helped deliver a record return for the State Government, with $350,274 worth of speeding fines issued every day last year. Data provided by Transport and Main Roads shows motorists racked up 671,559 speeding offences on Queensland roads, worth $127.8 million, compared with 604,069 tickets worth $112.6 million in 2010. The increase was largely due to a 76 per cent jump in fines issued by fixed cameras, now in 15 southeast locations. More will be rolled out this year when the Brisbane Airport Link tunnel opens. Mobile camera vans, which include covert cameras, also snapped more speedsters - up from 292,208 to 320,313. The huge number of fines coincided with the second- lowest Queensland road toll since records began in 1952. All categories of speeding offences climbed and 2989 people automatically lost their licences for six months after they were snapped at 40km/h or more over the speed limit. Revenue goes to administration, road safety and helping victims of road trauma. My comment..no..general revenue...and if "every K over is a Killer". as the government claims, why isn't the road toll astronomical????????
