In this case age excess does not apply as I was not driving the vehicle, this is a new excess just car insurance has added which I had not even noticed on my new policy (renewed in November) It is $800 more as the car is considered high performance or modified. If you are with them you probably have it on your policy too. A bit of bad luck on a few fronts really.
