Default tattooists on the central coast

G'day everyone, I am planning on getting my first tattoo very soon and am wondering if anybody can provide me with details of a reputable tattoo parlour that is clean and very hygenic. I visited a shop at the entrance today near the main tourist mall but I didn't find it very inviting and it didn't even have a name, it just said 'Tattooing' on the front window and had the entire window painted white. I then went to another tattoo shop on the main road at Toukley which seemed very inviting and appeared very clean and hygenic. The entrance shop was going to charge me $120 for what I wanted and the Toukley shop was going to charge me $300 for the same thing. Has anybody recently had anything done at any other tattoo placed on the coast and where would they recommend me to go. What I am after is the Metallica emblem which is called a ninja star to put on the top of my right arm all in black

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I dont know of anything up there as for where to go but on the tattoo subject I recommend buying some magazines as they heve adverts in them. And about where you are going to put it makes me think of my experiences. I absoloutly love tattoos I have even done a few, I am an artist at heart and just love them, do you? at first I my choice to get a tattoo was contrary to my family's beliefs. That's not why I got one , but it did influence what I got. to make it easier to be accepted. ERRRR! wrong! I also let the price influence what I got, also wrong, I even chose my upper left arm where all the "tuff stickers" go as I thought thats where i wanted it. wrong again. My reasons that I feel those descissions were wrong is that I love them more and more every day and the fact that they are addictive means that I actually want big pieces like sleeves legs and body suits and my type of design choices have changed. I never wanted japanese or oriental. I have a mermaid on a rock for my first choice so I could add to it later,ok fine so later I added a lighthouse setting with a pier an a few boat and fishing type influences, now I'm thinkinking of putting an octopus under it to bring it down to my elbo. That's cool but I'm getting interested in the oriental as I am learning the cultural meaning behind it and the individual messages that lay within. Thats cool too but I wonder how it would look with some western style mixed with oriental. sounds odd. my point is think about why you want the tattoo and why you want that design and most importantly why you want it placed there. You will get addicted you will also grow old with it and you will change the way you think but not always in the way other people think you will. Also I hate the adverse society on the subject. I'm a EX Tradesperson looking to move into professional and corporate world of real estate and I would love to be body suited with tattoos from wrist to anckle but I'm affraid that Mrs jones and her religeous friends and her adverse community of business people wont find the funny side of it. so I am restricted to elbow to anckle. Lucky I waited as It could have detirmined my future as an accident has rendered me useless for trades work. Always do what is personally right for you only, but never shut the doors on change of curcumstance or future growth or opportunity.

The older you are before your tattoo'd the better they look when you die, or the quicker they fade and spread the sooner you can go over it and make improvements.
just kidding.

End of thought

I have a few mates up here on the coast that've had a fair bit of ink work done. If you like I can find out where they get theirs done if you like....

Fordhoard makes some interesting points.

Another thing is, ask for portfolios of their work to see what they done (also look in tattoo magazines etc), as all artists have different styles and skill levels, even though the metallica symbol is pretty basic/easy work. Just because someone got work and they're happy with it at one place, doesn't mean you will (I won't mention the shop, but i've got a lot of friends all of a sudden wanting tattoo's and going to a certain place, they think the work looks good.. Personally, I don't think most of it does, nor do the artists there suit my style). DON'T go for a cheap tattoo, just because it's cheap. Most likely it's cheap, because it's crap work and it's the only way they get people to come to them. Everything little thing, even to the slightest placement of the tattoo (such as around muscle lines etc) can make a tat look good or bad.

Moral.. Take people's advice on parlours then go chase up the artists yourself

thanks guys for the input, I have also spoken to a lot of the people that I work with and other friends and they have all highly recommended STR Body Modifications at Wyong who are extremely clean and hygenic. Apparently one of the tattooists there has been rated as one of the best tattooists in NSW for his designs and attention to detail.

There one at the entrance which is suppose to be fairly good... not sure of the name of it. A few friends have gone there and said they are good.

Its just around the corner from Cold rock ice cream... on the main street.

There's another one in Ebb Tide mall at The Entrance, he's quoting me on some work now.
My previous work has been done by the guy at Toukley and I've taken people there who have thought about getting their first. The guy at Toukley is very knowledgable and helpful, if you're not wasting his time and I found the quality of his work to be very good.

Spend some time with each one having a chat and decide on the one with whom you feel confident, they don't rub off too easily so think it through carfefully.

What designs etc are you thinking about... and why?

Just make sure that they can tattoo well and not just design. I watched some one tattoo who had one competitions at expo's ,looked impressive, relly nice bloke but his experience in actual applying the tattoo had to have more time spent on it as once it healed there were blotches. it wasnt ruined but for your first tattoo everyone and I mean everyone will see it and will want to see it ,LOL even dwanny and dwanpa. because if they are against it they will want degrade you and if at all you are not happy with the job and a bit ashamed of before it is to be fixed, you will be shattered at the response and loose faith in it. that must never happen especially for your first one. If some one is against them and it looks fantastic they will say its a nice job but they dont like them, you will accept that, but if your not happy with it you will feel shame and get "I told you so". If trophys are what your after then look for an old hand with trophies for finished work not flash designes. I've heard that women are good as they pride themselves on showing up us blokes. I'd love to go over to the states and check out Miami Ink. any way good luck and post a photo of it once you take the plastic off. But dont ask for opinions unless you can handle the response, remember its for you not anyone else. best of luck ol chap!
