Hi guys
The base model AU engine, does anyone know what differences they had between the series? I can pick up an AU1 engine to go into my ED, but i'm not sure whether there was anything better on an AU2 engine, etc. Thanks |

As Fairlane said, no differences at all. They are all rated at 157fwkw and 357Nm torque.

With all that said in terms of weight.. AUI i6 vs AUII i6 vs AUIII i6 - Im guessing the AUI is slightly quicker.

Don't the series 2/3 have 0.5L more oil capacity? so it brings it to 5.5L total.

As for the engines etc. Effectively there is no differrence in performance at all. As JC said, the driver would make far more difference then the engine/weight. Hell, the one with the bodgy rear shock would probably be more of a difference then the model themselves.

I put a series three engine into my series one car.
I needed to take the coil pack off the old engine, the throttle body off the old engine (plugs were different) There was also something about the engine mounts IIRC.

AU3 XLS ended up getting the XR6 non VCT motors. I've got one
Sadly the added weight of the ute take away any advantage there would have been however small the advantage was.

IIRC the VCT motor had some updates in the S2 release with the compression being raised a tad. Nothing official was released to say this. Casper is the man to confirm / deny this..

Can you identify what series motor you have from the writing that's cast on the front? Can anyone confirm the different number for AUI, AUII and AUIII ?

the writing on the head doesn't necessarily mean its from that engine, your best bet is probably the engine number...unless you know what car it actually came from

Hi all, my au2 fair/ghia has the heavy duty mounts, i think they are refered to as ef/au v8 mounts, but mines an i6 vct. Have to swap the passenger side out, it clunks with gear changes (auto) with no torque. are there any variations of this mount ? or are my current ones flogged as they sit very low compared to the new ( 2nd hand ef/auv8 according to wreckers ) ? cheers
