eXACTLY,, If a base model falcon used the coded key inhibitor way back in 1999, I can't see why you seem surprised that nearly EVERY other car does too?

Yea, that's what I thought..........the original key is coded, therefore he will either need to find the lost key or take a bank mortgage to get a replacement one.

Mind you those Barina's were built in Spain so anything could be wrong with it,........ I remember reading a review on them when they first came out, I believe the reviewer commented that quality wise they "suffered from the odd Siesta."

I had the dubious pleasure of owning one of those. The best favour it did me was to covert me to Ford. It was nothing but trouble. It always had trouble starting and NRMA said it was bad design.

You'll have to go to Holden for replacement key.

OK firstly, it is the damn key, I just didn't realise a car with a RRP of ~$14k would have this feature in 1999.

Secondly, it whoops the pants off any small car Ford had at the time, Festiva was it? I give it a royal flogging most times I drive it and it has never had an issue, other than this one and its my fault.

Thirdly, no, I dont pay any attention to key-fob advances _

Yea, its definately a coded key, my sister used to have on in the UK...pretty common over there...didnt even realise the B series dont have that!

Being a bit of a smartarse here, but meh! It was after the AU1 update that Ford intrioducted transponder keys... July 1999, Update came out in March...



2ndly, SB barinas were either made in South America (Brazil?) or Spain.... If it's the transponder, AFAIK everything will work cept for spark?

A UK model and a Australian model may not neccessarily have all the same features. For a start they came with a 1.0L motor over there. The 1.4 L was the base engine in the Astra and the Astra 1.8L was the base engine in the Vectra.
In the USA its called a "Chevrolet Sail", no not SNAIL!, lol.
