I suppose a nice clean original VL turbo might interest somebody, and I guess there is always the possibility to turn up to a car show with a pristine ZZ/J camira... so it is the rarity of the car, what it represented to someone of the era, as well as the age and the fact you just don't see them on the road any more, plus some intrinsic aesthetic value that makes them a 'classic'. Why else would any one ever do up a gun-metal blue XC falcon 500 sedan with brown vinyl seats and an iron-head crossflow...
XD's never had 9 inchers. Common myth. But I do see XD's becoming more valuable over time. ESP's are getting pricey now, and I see good clean XD Ghia's with Clevos becoming more valuable.

Classic is a matter of perception.

Like for example if you were born in the 50's then classic would be nothing outside the X series cause it just aint strayian otherwise. anything that aint strayian aint musclin. Therefore anything that aint strayian doesnt classic.

Found more info on Wikipedia -
"The first XR6 and XR8 sports models appeared in the EB Series.
The rarest model was the SS, with just six produced, five of which were absorbed immediately into production car racing".

I'm wondering if the AU V8's might end up becoming a more desirable car over time, than the X series or E series...

Definitely the T Series.

I also think that in years to come XR6s and XR8s will be classic. Having a Tickford badge certainly adds that bit of exclusivity.

I sure hope so!

EDIT: Hell, I think ALL of the cars in my sig will eventually be desirable to some extent. I'm talking a few more years down the track of course. Post 2016 might help as well. They are all low ks and in excellent condition.

Yeah once kids my age (19) get into their 40's+ then cars of the 90's and early 2000's will become the new 'classics'. The last of the x series cars will be inherited from their dad, and the kid doesn't see it the same way, he/ she see's a quick few dollars off the mortgage, get's sold cheap, then cheaper, then erodes away into nothing but pictures.

When I'm older I want to restore an EB-EL XR6/8. In white or red. I bet I won't be the only one either. These were the cars I saw when I was getting into cars on TV racing around and out on the road.

Any Tickford and FPV will become desired like old GT's are now, it's just being arrogant saying they won't be. The same passion and emotion for these newer cars will grow in us younger guys to become how people feel about their HO's and Monaro GTS's now. And maybe we'll preach electric will never beat an EFI car.

Good points and I agree. It makes sense. It's all relative. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. The XY GTs hit their peak a few years back because of it.

Further to that, I don't think that a 19 year old in 35 - 40 years time will pay premium prices for an XY, whereas they may be paying a great deal for a T Series.

Ha ha ha. I meant a 19 year old today in 35 - 40 years time, i.e. 54 - 59 years old.

But seriously, the nostalgia just won't be there for them. Much the same that most Ford fans in their 40s 50s and 60s now don't have a major nostalgic attachment to Fords of the 1940s and 1950s.

I'd put the good old Toyota AE86 as a "plastic classic" from the modern-ish era.
Has a massive cult following ... and seen some immaculate "original" examples.

Yeah absolutely. What guy will buy an 80 year old falcon that was old when he was born, when you can do up an EF just like the one you learned to drive in all those years ago. ( obviously there will be some exceptions, but I mean majority)
Don't get me wrong, I love those old falcon's, I just won't ever be in the market for one as a project/ weekender.

I had a JD Camira on my P's
I couldn't kill it.

I knew of a few others than JD and JE Camira's ... they drove them gently ... they all had issues. Mine was flogged within an inch of it's life ... and it took the beating and wanted more.

Actually i had one issue with it .... I snapped the accelerator cable. OOPS.

In terms of cars, plastic will never be classic. Classic is an era in Oz motoring up to 78/79 (XC and HZ era roughly).

I like Bushbasher's definitions personally.
