Like the title say's I want to hear about trouble free high mileage car's. I will kick it off I'm pretty proud of our 1997 Trio S Festiva. My mother bought it new it's been through the family and it's now done 375,000Km. It's in at the dealer at the moment getting it's first replacement clutch other than it's still still all standard other than brake rotor's, wheel bearings etc. It is still running the original CV's however I have changed the boot's when they start to split. I'm hoping to get 600,000+km out of her.
Tell us about yours..... Cheers Ryan

My XC is close to 400 with the same motor FMX and 9inch, all been rebuilt at some stage though.
The only time it ever really broke down was when I bent a push rod and I was stranded near Carnarvon.

Old mans 2003 Mazda 323, done 321,000km still on its original clutch, its been abused its whole life with just about non existant servicing, just feeding it new oil.
Doesn't like to rev over 3000 RPM anymore and burns through a sump of oil in less than 10,000km, but she still gets the old man from A to B haha. He just puts more oil in it when the oil pressure light comes on, means the sump is nearly dry haha. Never left us on the side of the road, but I suspect its coming sooner than later. 314,000km, oil leaks from nearly every seal. 2nd trans, alt and starter. Been on gas it's whole life, which has never been adjusted or rebuilt. One of the quietest running Crossflows you ever heard. Mums Hyundai Accent - 267,000km. Original brakes lasted 90,000km Original everything else except for Clutch at 255,000km Rear suspension bushes need doing now. My XH Panelvan - 278,000km. apart from brakes, original everything else. Head never been touched. Old mans EL sedan, got to 285,000km, with nothing but brakes, and other normal servicing. Needs a water pump, and brushes in the alternator now though. Head never been touched either.

My old mans 2003 Avalon is pretty robust. 280,000klm of driving and it is yet to need anything other than general servicing and constant new tyres. The tyres are from his work in the mclaren vale region, he gets a flat nearly once a month.

We had a 1982 Mitsubishi L200 ute that my step dad bought in 1987 with 150,000kms on it. At the time he thought he had made a big mistake buying a heap of crap Japanese car, but 15 years later we've just sold it to a wrecker because we had no use for it. 300,000kms - original clutch, original 5 speed manual gearbox, original suspension, head gasket had never even been changed. Of course half the lower part of both doors were rusted to hell. Never a single problem with it and we used to use it for moving big loads of sand and gravel when we renevated a house a few years back. It was rated to 1/3 tonne in the tray, but we regularly loaded it up with 1/2 tonne, air con on, up hills, the whole bit.

Although... I do remember a service receipt stating boots were split at around the 130k mark... You know whats funny..... Everyone was against me buying the Festiva, but it was the only new car I could afford at the time and it also had free full comp insurance for a year. I paid cash from my own savings, so in the end the decision was mine. When I crashed it, around the dinner table my brother or sister made a 'funny' comment on how I can now get a 'real' car... My dad (a man of few words and fewer actions) slammed his fist on the table, stood up and said... "and in all the time he had it it didn't cost him an effen penny in repairs.. not 1 bloody cent".. They quickly shut up..... My sister had an Audi A4 and my brother a Hilux "real cars" and they were both constantly in and out of the workshop for repairs after they hit around 140,000km... and each visit wasn't cheap... I greatly regret letting the isnurance mob write it off.......

Hyundai accent 265000 manual (a few gearboxes though, engine still good)
Hyundai accent 245000 manual (starting to smoke, synchros not good) 2007 Elantra 230000 manual (Engine completely fell apart, gearbox synchros had it) I get 3 years out of a brand new car (all serviced by book), then its a write off :-) These ^ cars have been redlined and rallied (jumped, sliding etc) every day of their lives. ED Falcon manual, I bought it at 140,000 at just 2 years old, did about 100,000, then my mum had it and did another 100,000+, never a drama, apart from gearbox pedal box which had to be rewelded. Gearbox never had a problem, engine perfect! Had a clutch at somewhere near 300,000! Now I'm driving Triton Diesels. Should last a bit longer than the hyundais I suspect, but not as much fun... |

I did a service every 10k km +/- 200km and used an oil flush every time. Distilled water in the radiator and servicing things to reduce wear and tear / extend service life not trying to fix it after it breaks. My oil started to go dark at 7-8,000km. I probably could have gone to 15k between services but why? At the time a lube service was costing $99. As for the diesel..... pitch black oil driving out of Ford after a service. Thought I was ripped off the first time I checked the oil at home 800km after my 30k oil change. That car will def be getting new oil every 7,500km after seeing how much soot the oil holds in such a short time.... Would love to see the Focus get to the km the Festiva did... should be easy for a diesel.

2003 Camry Altise 4cyl auto.
378000 km. Has only had regular services and Tyres. Interior is stuggling but mechanically it still feels near new, except for a slight transmission whine in 3rd. Just did Melbourne to Falls Creek and back, three people, skis and gear, 820km easily on the one tank of fuel.

father-in-law's AUII futura done 350,000km towing a caravan most its life on the original motor & box. Only recently did i manage to convince him to fit a trans cooler, and we did, but he refused to change the trans oil as he didnt want to "jinx" things
this thing never gets serviced, only money spent when it needs it like a wheel bearing, last section rusted exhaust replaced, fuel pump....... thats it. Oh and a set of used tyres lol, atm hes taking it on a trip around australia |
