Waste of time?

Will it be a waste of time and also money if I put extractors and a full exhaust onto my seriesII au?

The reason i ask is because the ol' girl is getting close to 200,000km's, its just under 195,000 at the moment. Will there be much point?

It's my 2nd car and i will have it for awhile unless i win some money and buy a brand spanking typhoon or something of the sort. So it's going to be with me for awhile.

The reasons its done so many k's, is because it was my old mans car, and he travelled interstate quite a bit.

So yeah, worth it or not?

If it were me, since the car is at 200k chances are something fairly major ($500+ replacement parts) will need replacing. I've owned a Falcon with over 200k in the past and I believe theres already a challenge in keeping it in good condition as is. Instead of blowing the money and getting arguebly minor gains I would keep the money for a rainy day.

On the upside if you do end up saving money and getting another car the extra cash could land you into something that little bit better.

200,000 aint much for todays newer motors , providing they have been serviced and looked after by previous owners, you would gain a noticable difference imo by putting some decent extractors and a full exhaust (especially with an edit ) .

If your planning on keeping the car for a while , and if you can afford the mods , then its worth while imo ;) .

Exactly.

Whilst that mileage is high on a modern car it's prob nothing to worry about too much if you're driving sensibly.

I should add there are people turbo'ing their cars with that mileage and are doing ok. I don't think an exhaust will be an issue.

Honest Answer from an AUII owner is its not worth it. You can very easily get caught up in modding the car and spending way more than its worth on mods and then having no money left to trade up or do essential repairs. If you're buting an AU its better to buy one with the mods you want as modded ones are worth SFA more then stock in good nick

yea this car has been babied practically its whole life, my father has had it for the last 190,000kms, and i've only had it for 5,000 or so. I've driven it spiritedly a couple of times, but hardly ever give it some unless overtaking people. Nothing major has happened to it, been serviced the usual amounts. In fact im taking it in for another service this friday

I'm not really looking for major perfomance gains, just the minor but decent gains with extractors and full exhaust.

Oh well i might just stick with the rims, and installation of stereo, at least i can always move them around with me

hunt around for a 2nd hand set of headers and exhaust.. With alot of people starting their turbo installs you'll find a few sets popping up for sale..

Not just AU one will fit... I used my complete EL extractors and 2.5" exhaust and bolted it up to my AU when i went turbo so keep an eye out in the for sale sections

I put a set of extractors, 2.5" exhaust and CAI on my V6 VR Commodore with 240,xxxkms on the clock. Never had an issue with the car. Had the idea, I was going to keep the car for a few more years.. 6 months after having the extractors done.. drove past a car yard and saw a 99 AU and that was it, 3 days later the VR was replaced by the AU. But if you're keeping the car for another few years, why not do it.

yea ill be definitely having it for a couple of years, i see no reason not too, it won't be driven as much as my dad drove it. I won't be selling it anytime soon thats for sure. So i suppose if i can afford the extractors etc i might as well do it. Just hope the old girl has at least 100,000 more kays in her

i was contemplating doing the same mod to my car as well, i would be interested to see how you go with that one, and what sort of a difference it makes to your car. although mine has done 93,000 but i am mostly after more fuel economy. would this kind of a setup help, or actually make it worse?

yea i will end up doing it no matter the amount of kays, but i might go second hand for a bit of spare cash just in case something does happen to the ol' girl.

Where would i go looking for 2nd hand extractors and full exhaust? Would some muffler shops have 2nd handies laying around?
