Nah too much effort plus im new to the Focus game, so don't hold too much against my inherent lack of knowledge

When I said that FPV should put their badge on it I didn't mean they should remove the RS badge. I meant more that this should be FPV's version of the focus to complement the XR5 and flog the VXR HSV Vauxhall Astra thing. If all they do is swap the Ford badge for an FPV one I'd be happy, as it means Australia will get this car.

I can assure you all that front wheel drive doesn't really affect the performance, even in the wet

He said he was "speechless". Maybe that was from the drool exiting his mouth.

Matt, I'm going to post your comment over at the XR5turbo forum, and send the guys into an all out frenzy! Speculation about the possibility of the RS coming to Australia will go into over-drive!

all wheel drive would just raise the costs too much... the RS would lose its heritage then... as a performance car within a normal budget. besides... ford is certain the LSD will work well with the new revoknuckle setup to basically bring torque steer to zero..

Coming across the creek from High Performance Japanese Imports to a bog standard LT Focus i'm first to admit that I don't have a strong knowledge about Ford Europe's history of the last 20 years besides Sierra Cosworth's, but im at a loss having two completely different statements being made... am I wrong about Focus RS only being FWD or is there another model that has AWD... any help to clear this up would be good thanks.

I guess the best opinion will come in S13 of Top Gear when Jeremy will test drive it... we all know what he thought of the Astra VXR.... If its the dogs bollocks, he will say it how it is.... |

I had a Sierra RS Cosworth, and with a car like that, you don't have to prove a thing... ppl assume it's going to whip them. "Cosworth" strikes the fear into any man!!! Beleive me... I have experienced it!!!
I still would have loved Ford Australia to of sent the I6 Turbo to Cosworth...!!! Can you imagine... "Ford Falcon Cosworth"??? Can you imagine the sales... and I am not talking nationally... I'm talking internationally as well. Cosworth is a world recognised company!!! Ford could do so much if they tried!!!

I'm looking at a future project that will involve a RWD application to a focus a la MK1 and MK2 glory days. Still sussing out a lot of stuff.
BTW the new RS looks great and I'd consider one if ever Ford were to bring it here!!

Nice work Sadly, tis hard to get a modern RWD car, but handily...the focus has a full-size trans tunnel, so I think a *proper* drivetrain would go in there pretty easily

RWD foci have been successfuly done before, MKI that is. I remember seeing a few in the states, some with V6 engines and i also remember some mob over there even offering a kit to fit a 351 V8!
And with the huge popularity of the zetec and duratec engines in lotus 7 style cars, i think the new caterham's use them with a sequetial box and get a 0-100 time around the 3 second mark means that there's bound to be plenty of bits around to mount a gearbox and diff. The trick to it i reckon would be to keep the independent rear end.

Independent rear end wouldn't be too hard, you could modify skyline/silvia bits and incorporate as much of the standard focus gear as possible to keep the geometery correct. Custom uprights would be needed, and a diff cradle of course. Making it happen wouldn't be the hard part, making it happen without killing the boot would be the hard part...
Thinking about it, it'd actually be a lot harder to make a live rear axle fit, you'd need to fabricate pretty much everything. If you go to the Toymods forums, there's a guy who made a 1UZ fit into an oldschool TA series celica...with the 6 speed and full AWD system out of a GTR. I'll try and find the link, it's just amazing, and he's done it without affecting the factory lines. -RM.

I'm looking at something that will turn heads and do what my old MK2 2 door Escort used to do, smack large cars with big motors and turn heads. Doing this in a Focus requires some thought and planning. All in good time though, and definately in its own thread.
