i made my own deflector out of some mild steel which i found at work. i bent it into the right shape, sprayed it matt black and screwed it down behind the grille. effectively it deflects more air into the snorkel.

So much heated debate, about something that makes so little difference on a std car.

Intake warz...LOL

If your seriously keen on proven intake performance mods, go no further than a G&D or Bluepower intake. If you just want a functional "shaker", then just do it....dont expect any difference in engine performance (just noise).

BTW, the i6 engines dont run a MAF at all... (they use a MAP)

We'll see, I don't expect monsterous gains, but I do think its got to make a difference. Either way its something different. Just took it to the shop for a quote seeing that I'm laking in tools at the moment and cant get it booked in till late next week at the earliest. Not sure if I'll be putting it on the dyno tomorrow because I'm not sure what it will cost to get it fitted , so I might hang off on wasting money for now

If theres so much heat coming off the rocker cover than why did the old school V8's, ie. XY GT's etc have the intake on top of the engine?

AU Dude: Looks good, do you notice much difference?

Because sex sells... i.e. it looks hot (and maybe they where just ignorant to the issue back then?)

Have a look at the real production-based touring cars at the end of the 70's, and early 80's. Most of them had some kind of shielding to get more cold air around the carb and/or deflect the hot air away under the car.

well if heats such an issue, then maybe they should turn the manifold around so the throttle body isn't facing the engine

Well i installed the tickford snorkel and did the deflector mod at the same time. from stand still i didnt notice any difference, but at speed i did get a bit more throttle response when overtaking or kicking it down a gear, because thats when the deflector is most effective. drawing air from behind the grille and into the snorkel. i plan to get bigger intake piping and a pod in the box soon.
