Primary restraint design ie, the body and the way is absorbs and diverts energy, is extremely important, and the major component in scoring well to achieve 5 star ratings. Number of airbags is not always indicitive of a safe car, especially when the bag is not designed/engineered well.

Door trims are great example. FG doesnt have courtesy lights (EF-AU had four, BA-BF only fronts), no armrest door grips (EF-AU had proper padded ones), cheap front door pockets (EA-AU was carpeted) no rear pockets at all (EA-AU had them), cheap plastic door handles (EF-AU had real chrome)

Dash on BA-FG also had the coarse material over the softer and better quality material as featured on EF-AU. Then of course there's the cheap crap Chinese windows they started to use from AU-onwards. It reflects poorly on the car as a whole. The EF-EL Fairmont Ghia models even had a better premium audio system compared to the BA-FG.

my opinion is the total opposite. i hop back in a e series or au and think the dash/trim materials look so yesteryear its not funny. i'm quite happy with the look in my fg and the ba and bf i had also looked ok and wore pretty well.
why do we need a grab handle on the door cards like on ef-au? i think the trims on my xr are fine. misture of plastic and cloth. a handle to pull the door closed with. it has pockets and a drink holder (not sure i'll ever use it). sure the rear door cards no longer have a pocket but hardly evergot used in my older cars that did have them. i'm not sure what people expect of falcon here. its not a premium price euro. its a mass produced aussie family car. its built to a budget. you can't have your cake and eat it too. |

The dash is covered with nice soft to touch trim(most of it) & the layout, look & function 1st class. Having owned many Falcons & Fairmonts in my life thus far & having stepped from a BFII XR6 into the FG XR6 I can tell you there is no comparison between the previous Falcons & the FG (in most areas & not just the interior). I remember sitting at a table having a chat with the local Dealer Principal about the FG when I purchased mine & his reply to the positive things I was saying re the FG was it is the equal of many other makes now & he was referring to the likes of Mercs as he also sells them & in terms of how they feel to drive etc.... |

BA Interiors are aweful. Cheap rattly plastics, silver coatings that bubble up and fall off...poor quality carpet. FG is miles ahead, even little things like not seening the exterior colour on the door frames been seen inside.
Even though they are a bit old now, the E-Series falcons had some of the best interiors.

At the time of the XD's arrival I had a XC Fairmont GXL 5.8L & when I took an XD for a drive I was like omg look at all the hard plastic, they had acres of it & compared to the XC I had looked cheap inside lol Though I bet an XC would look cheap inside to me now as well lol |

But the FG I think is probably on par with the BA. The XR50 interior with the black piano finish console etc. made it something that I liked so I bought one. Subsequently replacing the cheap looking console lid with a soft leather G6ET item has made a lot of difference as well. Little details like this still let it down, hopefully Ford will do a better job with the FGII. |

I really liked my BAMKII interior. The only thing i didnt really like was the had brake cover. Just didnt look right where it met up with the centre console.

Just about every Falcon I've ever been in or drove had crappy plastics, my EA had really good plastic fit, but the plastics weren't sun treated and most of them were photo degraded and turning white. The plastics on my EL are pretty bad, mostly hollow and thin, the fit is really poor too. I thought the fit on the new Terri was great, no big gaps or anything like that, but I am definitely not a fan of the hard grainy plastic. B series plastic is crap IMO, everything is that horrible easily-scratched hard grained plastic, even the handbrake and gear lever, whereas on the AU and E series, it was more of a softer, leather style plastic. The AU I drove was a good compromise, the fit was good and the plastic quality was good too, nice soft touch stuff.

AU's had nice fit and finish, just a shame about the look and layout.

Interesting that so many journalists just assume that the RWD Falcon is dead and buried,
they are talking about a future global platform because that will save Ford money, I doubt it because one of the greatest hallmarks of the own design Falcon is its ability to undercut costs of international platforms like - Fusion (FG Falcon) - Taurus (AU falcon) - Taurus (EA Falcon) (and stillborn Capricorn project) - Granada (XD Falcon) - US Maverick (XA Falcon) I rest my case..... |

![]() The journos at drive can bring the Commodore into any Falcon article with the slightest possible segue. They will say something like "the Falcon has 4 wheels, and its largest competitor, which outsells it and is sending the Falcon to the graveyard, also has 4 wheels". ![]() Then find a way to mention Falcon sales are declining and its just a matter of time before they stop manufacturing in Oz. |

The motel I am staying in a Taurus SHO Ecoflex is in the car park, Its in black, with seats ,black bolsters and tan suede inserts. Looks nice !! Why cann't Ford Aus offer 2 tone leather seats ? New Focus Titanium doesn't count, not all leather seats....
