Yes, this is what I posted earlier. in NSW there is no Repairable write-offs, all are done as stat now. Basically the rules are there to stop backyard dodgies, not people who are genuinely interested in keeping the car. But, if i interpreted the rules correctly, if a car is written of in one state, it can't be re-registered in NSW...

Will blow out the cost of insurance as insurers wont be able to get as much salvage on write offs. Good for anyone who owns a panel shop because insurance companies will be less incline to write cars of, will be cheaper just to repair them. This car would have been purchased by a wrecker or a cut and shut surgeon no doubt. |

Can have a hell of a lot of fun with it. It's worth that alone in parts value anyways.

Do we know if it even runs ? $22,000 is hell of a lot if the car doesn't start , the motor and gearbox could be full of water . . .

Edit: Cheese read my mind.
In addition if it's true they tried to start it, engine may have sustained damage in which case that $22k is way too much for a GT without an engine and with flood damage. |

Pandora's box that car is.
The amount of damage possibly sustained to it is frightening, and unless the new owner knows what he/she is doing then they will end up making quite a loss. I hope it came with a carton of CRC Electrical Contact Cleaner; at the very least a can or two of WD40.

Advertise it for 40, negotiate down to 30ish, still a good profit and the new buyer thinks they got a great deal.
Ad is very short on details. |

It was nationally advertised by a major auction house who specialises in motor vehicles and is monitored by almost all people who have enough money to actually buy it as you will not get a car loan for it and sold for $22k which is FAR more than it is really worth which can be demonstrated that real buyers with real money who do this for a living let it go to some patsy for $22k. It reminds me of all the fiscal gurus who bought BF Cobras and threw them back on Carsales at an inflated price....... |

And if and when the car eventually gets parted out, the unsuspecting buyers of the parts are also none the wiser that their new transmission or rear axle is ruined internally, especially as time goes by and memory of the existence of this car fades. Maybe some mechanical parts will work for a short while, maybe not. Perhaps the laws on disposal of such vehicles should be stricter, to protect the public. |

some people are stupid. i mean the cost that are involved even to get running and reliable even as a track car........on top of the purchase price, duties and shipping. |

I smelt through this thread in a few places that some were trying to throw other interested parties off by posting about hearsay on the car's condition. Anyone actually interested to that length would have called the auction house and made their own enquiries anyways. Having had some experience, I would take the risk at $22k and have gotten it; physical inspection permitting just to make sure it wasn't hydro'd. Have heard some success stories on water damaged cars and a lot of electrics are common with base FG's. Clearly some gronk has bought it to make quick coin though. The ad is very scarce on the most important details - such as whether it runs and what exactly is wrong with it. They make mention of it being able to be used as a track car, but then don't even state if it runs? More money than any kind of sense or education - but they won't sell it quickly like that. Anyways, interesting thread in the pub for once! |

They probably plan to wreck it, but just chucked it up at 40 for a quick turnaround as a toe in the water.

the wreckers must be taking a loss, and trying to get some cash back. Must have been much worse than they thought!
