Looks like gas prices have just gone up again. I was filling up my car in Rowville tonight and noticed the servo was charging 87.7c a litre.

If we ALL email or send a letter to our MP's, radio stations, sunrise, morning show etc then we might actually get noticed and listened to. Anyone else notice its not on the news, just on our forum???

TAXI fares could soar mid-year due to the skyrocketing price of LPG and a host of other increases hitting the cab industry.
In just five weeks, LPG has jumped in price from 58.9c a litre to a high of 91.9c at some service stations, adding about $10,000 a year to the cost of running a cab. LPG taxis make up an estimated 70 per cent of the taxi fleet with the rest run on diesel or hybrid (petrol/electric). John Rahilly from Queensland Taxi Advisers Incorporated said the LPG hike, a $90 increase in third party insurance for cabs and the Federal Government's new five-cents a litre LPG excise would guarantee a fare rise in July. "It's always been the Taxi Council of Queensland that's had to apply for a rise, but now any party can put in for a fare increase at the twice-yearly reviews," Mr Rahilly said. "I would think we'd be looking at a rise of at least 3 per cent for southeast Queensland taxis." Taxi users in southeast Queenslanders already pay some of the highest fares in the country as a result of last year's 2.39 per cent increase. That took the rate per kilometre from $1.95 to $2.06 and detention time - or sitting idle in traffic - to 76c a minute. Benjamin Wash from the Taxi Council of Queensland said the LPG rises definitely resulted in a loss of revenue for taxi operators. "If LPG prices continue to rise over the long term this will need to be considered by all industries that rely on this form of fuel," Mr Wash said. Until the fare review, taxi drivers will have to absorb the extra fuel costs themselves - to the frustration of cabbie Michael Powell. He said the additional cost of fuel each week would take an entire shift of driving to cover it. "This is blatant price gouging by oil companies," said Mr Powell. "Normally LPG is about half the cost of unleaded and based on current prices, that means it should be about 75c a litre. "At this rate we'll be paying $1 a litre by July (when the federal excise of five cents a litre kicks in) and that's outrageous. "This is just another nail in the small business coffin," he said. Niki (Niki) Kormendy from peak motoring body, RACQ, yesterday blamed the price hike on "tensions between Iran, the European Union and the United States". She said heavy demand during the extended cold snap in Europe had also driven up the cost of LPG which was now 25c a litre higher than at the start of the year. "We expect the average price of LPG to escalate to at least 85 cents a litre by Friday, setting a new record for LPG prices," Ms Kormendy said. The Courier Mail. March 7 2012

not 64% 80c vs $1.31 is 39% more. I use 20-25% more LPG than petrol....so the gap is 15-20% It means that the payback figure exceeds the time I will own the car. So may as well get the boot space back. |

91-93c c a litre i saw in perth today at several areas, although some still 83c. was in the 55-65c a litre range the last 2 years. i am seriously thinking of going to sell my v8 ford on gas and buy a 4 cyl car now. i dont need power anymore anyway, i have a fast motorcyle now that uses a quarter of the fuel of the v8 falcon and goes twice as fast. gas will continue to rise, and no one will make loud cries in the media. but i foresee petrol will sit at close to $1.50 for the next 2 years or so, which is fine if lpg is going to be such a ripoff.
why arent the taxi industry crying foul at these criminal prices??? i just dont get it, and people in other countries are paying less per litre for australian lpg then australians in australia are. ********** criminals, but what can you do?? corporations are preotected by law, so you just have to work around them somehow, hence why i will use my motorcycle for half my weekly travel, and very possibly sell my falcon v8 and bu a 4 cyl petrol (or diesel) runabout for my other half week of travel. |

There is a 'petrol commissioner' in the ACCC, no idea how to send correspondence to this office (I've looked), Bulk letters to hear may get something? Yes our own LPG available for less China/wherever is seriously just a kick in the balls. |

Today on the Goldy I have seen it between 98 and 69cpl. Luckily I filled at Coles Express at Miami at 69 less 4c. Happy me. I used Motormouth and took a small risk as it hadnt been updated since 3am and it was 5pm.

Also, I can only imagine just how many country areas are also being hit hard by this sort of price at the moment. ![]() It's bad news if you have a dedicated LPG car. Does anyone know if you can retrofit e-gas Falcon's to run on Petrol again?? I asked in another section but just thought I'd also ask in here just in case more people 'in the know' saw it. ![]() |

Isn't it funny how now all of a sudden when we pay 69.9 cpl for LPG we think we got a bargain. The stuff should cost no more than 25 cpl.

Best around me i've seen this morning in inner north Melb is 75.5 at BP.
For those with some knowledge about international markets and the fuel industry, what is the general outlook for LPG prices into the future? I know a new federal excise of 5cpl will be applied from July but will we ever see prices back down in the vicinity where they were 6 months ago, or has a new higher baseline been established?

I am guessing when it comes into our cooler weather period ... that prices should drop back down ... but I am guessing a baseline (very baseline) of prices in the 60's.
Doubt we'll see 50's again.

my work car is on LPG, definitely not worth it anymore, switching to petrol...i say everyone stop filling up with LPG, if no one buys it the price has to go down...

I am going back to petrol for now. Might even remove the gas tank temporarily to save weight.
