Yes, that is why the US is always buggering with the middle east, it is the supply of the worlds oil, so they want to keep control of it. When it runs out, guess who will have all the oil left at the end when the world falls to peices - the mighty USA > it is a smart move. Have you never seen the photo's of the massive oil reserves the US holds (let alone their oilfields which are as yet un-touched)

If it gets too expensive I'll have to resort to things like fermenting the lawn clipping and changing my sewer etc so I can make my own fuel...
As I have said before.. Lets get into making "our own fuel" in this country!!!!

Thank is just rediculous to say that. FFS!
Which has more impact on the fuel comsumption of Australia?
(a)Falcodores
(b) that Aus has the OLDEST average vehicle age in the western world?

If you really believe that, put your money where your mouth is and change cars.
Otherwise dont preach at people.

Somehow I think a 20+ yo Toyota van, though 2.0L, might just be farked enough to be a tad inefficient.

Cumpulsory roadworthies would do more to increase efficiency in the national vehicle fleet (and cut the road toll) than just crippling half the population financially. Rego time = RWC time (free as part of our benevolent govt improving our sad little lives).

The US 'buggers' with the Mid East because if that goes up in flames, the world economy goes into free-fall. It would be the most severe depression imaginable and last a generation or more.

Actually, the Russians have greater reserves than anyone. They just cant afford to exploit it, nor do they need it for domestic use.

It has been said for years, that the next major war will be Russia fighting off China over Siberia. 2005 China re-iterated its claim to a huge section of Siberia.
This is BS as it was never theirs.
But it has oil, gas, uranium, titanium, etc, etc, so of course they will try.

Well there you go. You will give up your falcon before it hits $4 a litre then. _2:

But they didn't need to go there in the first place, it wouldn't have gone up in flames if they hadn't of pulled the WOMD rubbish.

Gee, wouldn't it just be the day to have American obviously stating it would have the only oil left in the world.. Imagine all the countries just wanting to bring them down!

Oil is a naturally occuring resource but the oil companies don't want you to know that because it'll drive the prices down. It's all about profits and how much they can make and how quickly they can make it....

There are many places in Northern Alaska and even the US where the oil wells have been capped off to keep oil prices high.

It costs them $6/barrel to drill and they sell it for $60+ on the market.

If anyone want's the real truth, google Lindsay Williams, this guy met with the big boys and has all the inside info.

Did you know that the current President of Afghanistan was a member of UNOCAL? (Californian based oil company) which has now secured a deal to build a CentGas pipeline along with Haliburton (Dick Chaney's money machine)through Afghanistan which the Taliban strongly opposed, which is the main reason why they invaded the country....it never ends.

I don't think fuel prices will go up by much, I predict they'll settle around $1.20/L. The oil cartels are testing the waters to see how much they can rip is off before their profit margins start falling because less and less people are buying fuel.

Read in an email the other day where this guy had an idea where everyone would avoid buying fuel from a major fuel supplier (eg. caltex) and eventually drive their prices down and then let competition do the rest....

Just my 2c

Thats the point. It hasnt gone up in flames. Yet.
Saudi hasnt stopped pumping nor has Iran.

But honestly, do you think this is where the US gets oil?
You do?
WRONG! US oil comes from Canada, Mexico and Venezuala. And a small amount (comparatively) of high-grade domestic incl. off-shore.
Europe gets its oil from the Middle East.

You would think that all the money that these oil sheikhs make in the middle east, they would have the best roads, communications, hospitals, every thing that money can buy, their country and their people would be living in an utopian society. The amount of money that is made in afghanistan from the opium trade, that country should be an absolute paradise, instead the trade is allowed to continue and the place looks like it did in 900 b.c.

Seriously though, China has stood by watching the developed nations boom and succeed - they are just following suit in a globalised world. They want their share, and they want to be able to get it the same way we do. That means oil consumption.

Greater Demand of a limited (however falsely) resource means costs go up to the consumers. Pretty standard really. So 1.5billion extra people wanting their share of a developed nation lifestyle - all of a sudden they cannot have it?
