Very inexperienced and immature going by his reported Facebook contributions, not prepared for politics, probably not well briefed on party policy, wasn't expecting to win and was probably only selected as a candidate to fill the spot for AMEP in Victoria.

AMEP would be very aware that if they don't get this right, then they will do major damage to their brand. They are already going to have significant trouble getting this bloke re-elected in 6 years with a primary vote of 0.5%.

The states formed the federal system, yet the federal government has more power in legal and monetary terms. Federal law trumps state law every time. Federal government hands out money ( from GST revenue) to the states as it sees fit.

Why do we need state governments? You never actually answered the question directly, so I will answer it for you. We don't!

Seems to me to be just an average guy. We all things that are fun but others may not see it that way. Most people makes jokes some people may find them funny others don't.

It's pretty obvious what the media's intentions are in this. I'd say you'd be stupid to play their game and let bait you into saying something unintentional.

As far as i'm aware he not a senator yet so maybe when he is he'll step up.

I don't have to justify why we need states. They existed before the federal govt and created it.

It is utterly ridiculous that a party with 0.53% of the primary vote can secure a senate seat.

In all honesty I considered voting for the s..x party but like speeding and hooning those days appear to be less and less frequent and the policies they put forward would have cost me more than any carbon tax ever would !

So Ricky is in for 6 years at $190k+ per year, and is currently unemployed so living on bugger all? He is going to have a fine time over the next 6 years - I wonder if he gets docked if he doesn't turn up?

It's even worse in WA, the Sports Party guy got 0.22% of the primary and doesn't have any policy on any issue outside of Sport. Asked by Leigh Sales tonight about his position on the Carbon Tax he said that once the tally is complete and their senate position confirmed, they will "then move on to the next phase of this whole process and then come out with all our various policies and all those various issues."

Talk about cart before the horse...

At least the AMEP had some outline of their ideology on their website, even if it did lack detail and was full of emotive buzzwords.

I don't know if this party was on the QLD senate tickets, but after what appeared in the media about Ricky Muir made me hold a lot of doubt about this party.

And what was this about him comparing prostitutes with Fords?

But the main thing is he's got in. The previously unemployed man will never live with any financial woes for the rest of his life.

I agree with MrMaestro. I too don’t like the idea of some bloke who appears to represent “motoring enthusiasts” making us look like a bunch of flannelette wearing yobbos.

I wish them well and I plan on donating to their cause, however, I have some simple advice. Don’t **** it up.

It was probably a wise move for Ricky not to talk to that muppet, Neil Mitchell on 3AW. Mitchell knows exactly how to prey on someone’s weakness and he would have found them very quickly.

Ricky’s going to need some very quick and more importantly, good media training.

It’s always nerve racking when you have a TV camera in your face. I’ve been in the situation quite a few times and even with well thought out answers to questions, including curve balls that you aren’t expecting, the nerves get to you and it’s easy to fumble things. I will say that I’ve had the luxury of being pre recorded so if you do stuff up, and you’re the good guy, they’ll give you another crack at it.

Ricky will not be made out as the good guy. The media will do everything they can to bring him down. You only need to look at Q&A or Lateline tonight. He’s already being made a laughing stock with his kangaroo antics. Not a good start. I’m sure that it was all in good fun, however, now something as silly as that has come back to bite him on the ar$e

And for those here who know Ricky personally, there are media coaches around and get him in touch with one before he does any interviews.

I will say here that I’m not bagging him, Ricky will need a lot of support from some very clued up people.

I wish him well but there’s a lot of weight on his shoulders now.

I don't understand this "they only got 0.x% of the primary vote" argument. The the reason we use preferential voting in the House of Reps compared to a first-past-the-post system is that, in the latter system for example, if a candidate wins with 30% of the vote, that means 70% of voters, i.e., the majority, wanted somebody else.

So what if Muir received 0.5% of the primary vote? Maybe he got much higher in total when you include those who voted below the line. That's what counts in my book.

I have to fess up I voted for them. I'd been watching Keith Littler of the grunt files do this from the inception and I though fantastic. Someone with some media savvy is going to make some noise and represent us.

However, when Ricky got elected I was stunned and proud, and then I googled him.

There are program's where you can erase your on line history. A wise move when you plan to take on the two major political parties. They are a savvy and well resourced and ruthless enemy. And to not take some steps incase you get elected is foolish in the extreme.

If this guy can't do the job he should step down and the party has a right to appoint a new candidate.

I'm actually thinking of joining. Not to get elected. I could think of nothing worse than the intrusion of privacy that would bring. But to help bring some process to this so we don't come of as rednecks vs the media savvy Green and Major parties.

I also wish him well. But now might be a time to help. Before they legislate for us all to be driving Prius'

Keith Littler has some great idea's!

I wouldn't focus too much on the individual senator. It's the body of people behind them, who are most important.

Also remember, that in all reality Tony Abbott (or indeed any PM) is just a front man representing a larger body, and who will ultimately be puppeted around by the folk behind the scenes.

He had to be endorsed by the party officials ( you cant just run on a party ticket without endorsment ) who he freely admits never meeting so they are equally as bloody stupid as he is . It is patently obvious they did 3/5ths of FA of a poofteenth of a bees dick of background checks on this clown so they are only one nanaomillimetre above him in the foodchain . This whole tawdry saga is NOT going to end well and if anything will set back car enthusiasts interests decades and reaffirm in Joe Average Camry driver minds that anyone with even a passing interest in perforamance cars is a hoon .

News flash , being a politician involves talking extensively with the media , it goes with the territory and the Australian public have a right to know who is representing them ( well the .05% he represents anyway ) . G'day Darren

I'm sure most of you have heard by now that our lead Victorian Senate Candidate looks to have been elected to the Senate. Whilst we cannot claim a victory until all the votes have been counted we are still rather excited for Ricky Muir and the future of the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party.

This would not have possible without our members, volunteers and those who generously donated to the AMEP. You have all played a part in history and for that you must be congratulated. We cannot thank you all enough and you have good reason to be proud of the role you have played in the AMEP's success. Take a bow guys and girls.

We must stress that the votes are still being counted and in a week or so the final result will be known. The media are extremely interested the party and in Ricky and you will be hearing and seeing a lot of stories about us. As the result is not official we are remaining cautious yet confident about the AMEP and at this stage are keeping media interviews to a minimum and to only a couple of people who are speaking on behalf of the party and Ricky. To maintain this approach we ask that any media enquiries you may receive are to be directed to our website "Contact Us" page. We would also advise that you resist the temptation to call the media directly and speak on behalf of the party at this stage.
We believe that we were winners before anyone had even cast a vote. We set out to Unite the Motoring Enthusiast community and we achieved that goal. The possible election of a Senator by the Australian people ensures we met our second goal and now we move on to our other objectives. As we have said before, this is only the beginning of the AMEP and with such a good start our future looks bright.

You have all made an amazing contribution and we are in awe of your support. It certainly looks as though we will indeed be "Cruising into Politics".

lets see if they can have an influence on the proposed new EPA rule coming to vic in December....it will be a dark day for all modified car owners if it goes ahead
and the reason we voted for them is to keep if fair in the senate.

Amazing how everyone is complaing, at least Ricky put his hand up to have a go. Everyone complains that enthusiast never get heard, yet a party gets set up and how many on here, who claim they are obviously more educted or representative of enthusiasts than Ricky put there hand up?

Give the guy a chance, talk about tall poppy syndrome. If your not willing to have a go and make the effort and represent your beliefs, stop complaining.
