its easier to just shout everyone down and assume this guy is a idiot because there is no information available to people regarding him, except for ABC saying they cant get a hold of him and the rest of them muck raking.
What a democracy we live in when a ordinary bloke can get into the senate, you dont need any special qualifications to get into politics here. im sure he will learn the ropes and be helped along his journey. some people are upset about the way the party preferencing works, but thats how it goes when the majority of voters tick and flick the box above the line, not knowing what order that the party preferences the rest. maybe people should take their time below the line with their preferences. The system doesnt need reform, the majority of voters need to get more informed. |

I think it's demeaning to Australian voters when someone like this holds a senate seat and potentially (together with others) can hold the balance.
Unemployed with no policy one day and a senator the next. And still with no policy except being a motoring enthusiast. |

either be prepared to answer questions from day 1 or don't run for politics of course Muir and his party are going to be scrutinised, the general public want to know more and the media is simply responding to their interest. Hiding themselves away like Diaz did is only setting off alarm bells and rightly so. |

I think its a good thing that his family picnic video was found now and aired. Its out in the open and will be old news soon enough.
If it was suppressed and found later it would be used against him and the insinuation of what else is he hiding would be made by anyone wanting to bring him down. Now its done and dusted and any good work done by the party from here on can't be tarnished by it. It really is a storm in a teacup! I reserve any judgment of the party until they get a chance to perform. There is nothing to go on yet so any slagging off is just tall poppy syndrome at the moment and as some one else said. Usually done by those who would never think of putting their hand up to help our cause. I am amazed by the number of people who still believe the media representations of individuals they target. They only show you what concurs with the way they want a person to look to the public. What strengthens their take on things. If you are one of the detractors give the guy a chance you might be proven to be right in the future but you aren't yet!

There is no pleasing some people, car enthusiasts have for a long time whinged about the treatment we are coping and how, now thanks to the government portrayal of us, anyone with mags on their car is seen as a hoon. It appears we my finally have a voice, it may not be exactly as we wanted but we have a voice.
I don't think anyone expected him to win the election and run the country, but it appears he may win the seat so can sit parliament and stand up for us! Wow, he is a normal bloke, not some stuffy politician, I can deal with that. I would rather have some "Joe Average" in his position rather than some old guy that has sat in a office for the last 30 years and knows nothing about what is going on in the real world except for what his advisors tell him.

If its coming to Victoria, then he is going to have bugger all influence. He is a Federal Senator, not a state Senator. He wont have any influence over speeding fines, registration costs or 95% of the things that irritate drivers, because he is Federal, and most of the traffic things are state laws.

The last bit is probably true so it appears they are doing what they should before he is thrown to the wolves, by buying him some time to prepare!

Give the bloke a chance, joke's, smartass comments, pranks he did before he was elected are only relevant if he continues after he's elected (and if they were illegal, he wasn't wearing a KKK outfit doing Hitler salutes at the end of the day).
I'm confident some Fmr Prime Ministers have done substantially worse things in the past before social media that hasn't come out, and is best left in the past. Like I've always said, we elect the politicians we deserve. If Ricky ends up being a breath of fresh air with sensible opinions, then we have done well. If not, then we deserved no better. Everyone including myself had a chance to get involved and become a member of the AMEP and stand for office (I couldn't be assed, but others chose to put their time and effort into what they believe in, well done to them). If you want to make a difference make your voice heard, join a party that suits your beliefs, I know it's always easier to throw comments from the cheap seats, the seats are quite comfortable, mine has my bum grove just right.

seems to me that people don't get that its not the ford motoring enthusiast party, hes a country lad that enjoys 4wding, how many standing senator's even know what kangaroo poo looks like? (the kangaroo is also on our coat of arms and national icon) tells me hes not afraid to get hes hands dirty, I like the cut of he's jib.
What did you expected a blue-blood good old boy that likes to buy a brand new car lower it and fit 20's- give me a break why all of a sudden where told what a senator gets paid, jealousy. Seems like while unemployed he was holding out for management. |

Hopefully they will get some higher quality candidates for the next state elections, and a significant vote in both houses. I am still happy to have him there just to raise the spectre that constantly roopooing "Enthusiasts" will bite the big parties eventually.

got to at least give him a chance to prove himself one way or the other. some of the senate positions are filled by what can only be described as buffoons given they make a speech when they get and then say nothing till they get dumped and just vote on the party line. he has nine months to get his act together. lets hope he gets some good mentoring and proves worth the money.

I hope he goes well and can clearly articulate what it means to be a motoring enthusiast. I don't really care what his other policies are and it may be that he has no position until informed of the options. He can make his choice then. It has been said, media training would do this bloke a world of good. |

I didn't vote for this party, but like I said in the other thread, Ricky Muir is now safe from debt.
The previously unemployed 9/11 conspiracy theorist will now be earning close to 200k a year. Something that I could only dream of. I'd like to congratulate him for his remarkable achievement and he has certainly made it into my envy list. |

I'm intrigued, what specifically did people who voted for him want or expect him to do in the Senate for them as 'motoring enthusiasts'?
real specific answers please NOT mission statements like 'be a voice....', or 'represent us...' |

Why do we have two threads on the same subject going at the same time?
I realise that they are in different places, but FFS, it’s the same subject.

Grow the economy, reduce unemployment, increase Medical and educational services, improve our balance of payments, stop government waste, allow citizens 3 free skidz per week before you get a caution from police, increase speed limits, reduce registration fees, increase funding to road/roads projects, reduce my personal taxes, increase everyone else's taxes that aren't in my tax bracket, allow GST free purchasing for HSV/FPV products, stop the boats, speed up the boats, welcome the boats and turn the boats back. There's 1 or 2 things I've left out, but that about covers it.

I think this is a wonderful reflection of our political system - really. Any Joe or Jane can be elected, there is no prequalification or aristocratic pseudo-system to screen people. In other countries there are riots and deaths at election times. We are able to debate the merits of a obscure result without anyone getting hurt - fantastic!
BTW, we had a prime minister who held the supposed record for downing a yard glass of beer. A bit of roo poo doesn't seem to much of a biggie to me! I hope he can make something of the opportunity.

It surprises me that aussies are just so stupid and totally ignorant of the facts. he turned around the nation that had 200% inflation and in total chaos and despair to be online to be the superpower of the world. Now one could misinterpret what i have said on this, but we idolise our big two parties as the be all, when they are in fact hopeless morons to be true, as they sell us out down the drain all the time and that's about all they are good at. There is no excuse for Australia to be as hopeless as it is with backward everything as we could have the best of everything roads hospitals education you name it. |

What problems were the 4x4 guys having anyway? I thought most of their stuff was done on private property.
And your right about Hilter, if he hadn't of been evil Germany would probably be bigger then America now. He was a very gifted leader, he just happened to be a psychopath too lol.

Believe in the AMEP or don't, but don't bag the guy for being in the situation he is in. Whilst we all like to talk about what we would do or not regarding our hobby, he stood up and put himself out there.
