Hi guys,
Posted the same thread in tech for 6's with not a lot of response. Having had 4 V8 TC/TD and TE Cortinas in the past, 10 years has past, the bug has bitten again and I now find myself wanting to build another Corty, but with a tough, street registered six instead. I'm sure there are plenty of you on here who have either self built or had built a tough 250 in Melbourne. Can anyone point me in the right direction on building one myself or a reputable engine builder that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a reliable tough motor combo. Thanks. |

I'm about to swap an efi alloy head six turbo/celica 5 speed combo out of my TD cortina in order to try a 4.0L six/T5. The later engines can make a bit more power i am thinking..

I would say that the price would depend on the parts that you want to use in the motor wouldn't it?
What do you want to do with the car? Just a tough Streeter or something that you can drag race all of the time? I would say something with a bit of head work a nice cam and maybe some ACL race series pistons and 200CI rods would be a good decent combo, I’ve driven a couple of mates corty's with similar combo's and they go very well and weren't that much to build, i recall one of my mates paying about $1500 for his motor and pistons, but he already had the cam and a couple of other things. On a bit of a side topic, I’m rebuilding my corty at the moment and could do with getting rid of some performance parts that are suited to a 6 if you need anything just PM me and I’ll see if i can help out, I’m in Sydney tho but i don't mind posting some stuff. PS the parts mostly suit TC/TD cortys but some of the stuff can be swapped or adapted. Good luck with the build mate, sound like it will be a great car! Cheers mate

Thanks for the feedback guys.
As I now have a family to think of as well, I would be looking to spend around $4000 on parts to build myself, as I would want a tough reliable street combo (which could still post a reasonable number at the strip, 13's?) that I know will not cause me too many hassles, even when it get a few km's on it. Unfortunately, V8's are to hard to get engineered these days, so a tough n/a 250 will do until I have a chance to look at a later model engine and box combo. Perfoming the mods you have suggested 75, with a decent carb/ manifold and exhaust, what sort of flywheel horses would you roughly be looking at? On a different note, what do TE/ TF sedans roughly weigh in street trim? Thanks again. |
