Yet the price of meat at the supermarket just goes up and up. Once again the big supermarkets screw the shoppers and the farmers. Of course the only way to beat the supermarkets here is to use your local butcher!

I'm not far north of Newcastle, and our grass dies in winter because of to much rain, but in summer starts to die because of hardly any. We go from one extreme to the another, but overall we have way to much rain.

i just read today a farmer was selling his sheep at $3 a kilo, yet the supermarkets were selling it to the public for $34 a kilo. that is just so wrong

What part of the lamb sells for $34kg? If I went down to my local butcher $34 would get me a freezer full.

Yes it really is a worry.I just hate to think what it will be like if the farmers and our dams dont get decent rain in the next few years..

This a strange country. I live in one of the driest regions on the driest continent on earth. We have never had water restrictions. I think I might go out and hose the dust off my car. God bless the great artesian (SP?) basin.

Please explain. I mean... if it's wrong then you must know what right is. So... who exactly are you to be telling someone what an appropriate price is?

If people pay that much then that's what the market has priced it at.

Lol, good point and yes - a bizarre world in which we live! I guess if we had metropolitan population density in your neck of the woods then there'd be a greater need for restrictions lol.

My parents live on a farm at Maffra in country Victoria. The big dam which is used for irrigation in the summer is Lake Glenmaggie (where the e-series camp is next weekend). At the moment, it is very very low, so it's going to be bad when summer hits and farmers will need to irrigate. My parents are lucky as they have a couple of spring-fed dams on the property, but Dad reckons it's going to be one of the toughest summers he's seen in a long time.

It's also disappointing that I waterski at Glenmaggie. Looks like that won't be happening this year :(

I live 1 1/2 hours North of Wagga & was is our front yard last year , It's still the same . We've had about 10 - 12 wet days "this year" .

My cousin owns a farm 20k out of town & is carting water from his bore to what stock he's got left ! So far the fuel has cost him triple what the stocks worth .
