Since getting my car serviced at Ultra Tune last Friday, the inside of my car has a strong smell of gas. Not petrol, but gas. It was just a standard service for an AUIII, the brake discs needed machining but apart from that no other work was done. They may have checked the exhaust as I did complain of it rattling somewhat but no probs with it (except needing a new muffler at some point but not yet) and they did see that my water pump for the radiator needs replacing, but yeah, both things weren't carried out.
Any idea what could have caused this? Could it just be coincidence? What causes a strong gas smell throughout the car? Thanks for info provided. |

Can be just a small leak under the bonnet. It doesn't take much of a leak to get a smell in the cabin.
To find the leak make up a spray bottle filled with water and a little dishwashing liquid or car wash detergent.Spray around all the gas line fittings, solenoids and convertor. If the spray stars to bubble at some of the joins that will be your leak. You can tighten the fittings to stop the leak or take it to a gas place to check. |

It turned out to be a bottle of Mobil transmission fluid I had in the boot that was leaking... excuse me while I cower in the corner and die of embarrassment

Well at least nothing was wrong with the car, and no one was in any danger, except of um, er, embarrassment! LOL!

lol, glad it was an easy one mate, i was going to suggest check your diet if the gas smell hadnt subsided

hehehe , least it was nothing major. Sorta reminds me of years back my old XE copped a really bad lingering mouldy smell in the cabin , i though i had a water leak... anyway after 2 weeks of hunting for water leaks etc , i finally ripped out the back seats and found that 1 of my sisters kids had stuffed a dim-sim down inbetween the seats , thats was the culprit allright ! ..lol
