Well me and my brother took the EA turbo for a drive and it was very quick. It would easily keep up with my mates Gen III Holden ute, it was a torque monster. It also made a cool blowoff sound when you changed the gears like pshhhhhhhh....
The only problem was the temperature stayed at hot the entire time we were driving it and it drank about 1 litre of water in a 10minute test drive. So i think it's got some serious head gasket issues although it spun the wheels (LSD) 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear changes. My brother ended up buying a VL berlina turbo for 6 grand that had 7 grand worth of engine and turbo receipts plus a new spray job with a 130RWKW on factory 7lb boost. It's quite a nice car(but it's a holden) It's still for sale at Heritage Motors, Brisbane for $5000 with 6months rego and safety certificate. Heres a pic.

Looks nicely done. Either car will need a fair bit spent over time but there is more aftermarket knowledge for the VLs - such is the benefit of taking the more common path. Hopefully someone here buys it. :P

thats an absolute bargin isn't it? So if you fix the HG issue, say maybe $1000 worth then you will have a turbo falcon for $6k? Not a bad deal at all. There is always cheap stuff in QLD damn it!

geez id consider buying it if it was in VIC. Looks pretty straight. Headgasket is a piece of **** to change and it's a good excuse to get them to knock another couple of hundred off the price. What's the interior like? Got any under bonnet photos?

Get it Doug, and then get them to throw it on a truck for you. Shouldn't cost more than $500, and like you said you can bargain with them. As long as the body and turbo related stuff is in good nick, it's a bargain at $5k.

I can vouch for yards and pretty much everything that comes out of heritage is damn good quality. Maybe a few little issues, but this is a nice yard that caters to enthusiasts, ring them up, do the deal, wire the money, and get them to send it down to you. You've always got members in qld who can go sort shit out of it goes pear shaped (it won't)......BUY IT. Man, I'm so tempted but got the silvia here......

With the temp/water, possible gasket issue, i think your brother made the better choice with the money that was spent on the VL.
I would go the EA turbo & sort the head out myself but he obviously didnt mind which make of car he bought.

thanx jjj i found it, im gonna give em a call i wouldnt mind havin a factory turbo ea : im down here in melbourne which dont bother me too much but it doesnt say its km's so id have to queary that and the engine cond. Would you guys think it would cause many problems like rembering it is an ea and all and is know for its not so 'perfect engines'? i wouldnt want it if im going to use all my money fixing it rather that working on it, like i know all cars nee dto be fixed but it would be a slow process doing it up and id hate to be stoped all the time cause of engine problems..
