Does anyone have BigPond wireless on their home pc and how has it been. I am considering it as an option and would like to hear from those who actually have it as to its performance. There is a previously disconected (previous tennant) phone line but reconnection and monthly cost make normal broadband expensive and I'm not sure how long I will be at this address. Only Bigpond have wireless in this regional area. I am only looking at 256k 1g monthly plan.
Thanks Ian

Wireless is very expensive and it is a hell of a lot cheaper if your are only using a fixed home PC to use broadband. How long are you looking at being at your current residence? You're looking at spending $79.95 per month on wireless internet, whereas an equivalent broadband plan is about $39.95 per month, or even less depending on which ISP you go with. There are ISP's out there that do not sign you up on 2 year contracts. Internode for example have no contracts, but if you disconnect within the first 6 months, there is a fee ($65) that is charge by Telstra which they pass on to you.

I only need 256k not 516k speed. The new pooda I have will make up for any slow speeds which I have on this one.

With broadband, $49.95 can get you 1500 speeds with about 10Gb of download.

Wireless is a great system if you move about a lot and are not a heavy downloader of porn or whatever. NoG, I mean, NextG works well up to 3.6Mb/s and if you do it on bigpond then the V8SC (among other sites) does not count in your data plan. Great for race day at the pub or track. Fixed line phones are always cheaper than mobiles but very inconveniant if you actually have a LIFE. |

my old man has bigpong wireless card for his laptop for when he does jobs away from home, performance is as good as normal 1500/256 on ADSL, but i think that was the only speed he could get, and its about $60 per month from memory.
depending on where you live, some isp's have govt broadband connect funding, and there is an unlimited *not even shaped* 1024/1024 wireless you can get for $55. theres a place near where i am that does it for our region http://www.yabba.net.au/wireless.htm
