So youre buying an e-series falcon in the hope that it will be more reliable???
Hmm. There are quite a few things you might wanna look at on the car before you commit. Headgaskets blowing, radiators, leaking coolant and such are the most common dramas with falcons of the era, as are some niggling dramas. make sure it doesnt have too many kay on the clock, and listen to the lifters when you start it. Have a good long drive and use aircon, go through the gears, try the clutch make sure its fine and not too stiff. Thats my contribution. Fella's anyone else wanna contribute as to what there is to be wary of? |

Yeah, obviously a car getting close to 15 years old is going to have dramas. But if you've got your heart set on it, get a RACV check and go over it with a fine tooth comb. I'd be checking normal things such as coolant colour, any leaks around the head, colour of the engine oil and also the trans oil to make sure it's regularly serviced. (Parts are readily available too).
You're making a good choice with the 5-speed and getting the update EBII (I assume). Good luck and let us know how you go.

From experience, the difference is that fundamentally a Falcon will last longer. They don't tend to wear out the engines after 200,000 kms and start blowing smoke etc. However they don't have the same reliability as even a Korean car (generally speaking) and little things like thermostats and gaskets etc require maintenance which can be taken for granted on most other cars.
I'd consider something like a Laser with low kms, and look after it in terms of oil changes... that would be the best of both worlds. The biggest problem with Falcons is that most people, frankly speaking, treat them like crap - and secondhand buyers are the ones who really pay for it. Find a good example, look after it and you'll be happy. |

Your making 2 good moves straight away.
(1) not getting a pre EB2 (2) not getting an auto Next improvement would be to find a VERY good example. Check the cooling system and transmission opepration (2 very expensive areas). If the budjet can stretch to an ED or Ef go for it, but quality is more important than age or km. A Very clean EB2 country car with 250k on it is better than a tatty 1996 EF with 1/2 the kays used in the city.

I was serious! Pretty cheap too, I wonder how much he is looking at paying for his manual one? For roughly 3-4K more he can have a turbo EB with the potential for 350rwkw.

If you can stretch an bit, go for an EF or EL. EFII would be ideal.

Thats the plan! Something already Hi Po with all the stuff that I would want to do in the future already done. This can mean that I wont have to spend anything on it! No more being poor due to mods!

nope not anymore. I have to draw a line somewhere. The line will be drawn at a very nice position.
I want something nicer than the EB with more gadgets and something not as old and run down. Maybe even something that catches the eye :
