That is just stupid. I think some people just enjoy complaining to the media about things like that. Have they never heard of "advertising puff" which is a concept, funnily enough, derived in law, where there is no real obligation to be totally truthful and literal in advertisements, because it is generally accepted that the public/consumer who sees it can distinguish between reality and fantasy/joke etc...
Like, we KNOW camels and childrren cannot drive. We know that ducks do not do burnouts in toilet bowls. We know that Commodores do not make crop circles in paddocks of wheat. By removing those kinds of ads, it is basically admitting that we have no common sense and do not have the intelligence of a 5 year old. We lose the responsibility to judge with our own minds on what to think.... the thinking is being done for us. Dont get me started about school zones though, after the other day, seeing some old guy drive through one doing 60 in the 25 zone, the little girl at the crossing thinking he might stop (she was maybe 6) and with the old guy going way to fast, before he realised she was there and was about to cross at the crossing (which had orange flashing light) and skidded all the way through the crossing. The girl had the sense to hang back on the footpath, but if she HAD crossed as she had a right to do, she would have been clean up by the stupid old guy. Incidentally, that old guy was up my backside and carrying on behind me as I was doing 25 in the school zone, before I turned off, and saw him overtake me and do that! Oh yeah, and the idiot in the Skyline who lives in our somewhat windy, peaceful street who thought he would try and drift around the corner, lose it and nearly fly into the front yard of an old couple tending their garden.... but that is off topic... LOL. Point being, there are other, more important things to worry about IMO, than ads on friggin tv!!!

Political correctness is one of the worst blights imposed on society. It's so beyond a joke, it's not funny.

Car ad's need a bit of humour (this one was ok), the manufacturers can't show the cars going fast or drivers having "the smallest amount of fun". |

How about teaching the kids it's not right.. If they TV is more of a teacher to the child than the parent, doesn't say much about their parenting skills.

Policitcal Correctness is destroying this country, we are afraid to say what we think and we don't think what we say. I blame giving women the vote, but thats just me.

The whinge really isn't that these things cause the world to end, its just that it seems increasingly fashionable to bend over backwards for the loud minority groups in life, virtually no matter how illogical or extreme their views. Just a bit of a whinge, that's all. |

All im saying is that we're free to say whatever we want amoungst our friends and family, which is all i really care about. So i cant speak my mind on national TV... no big deal. Or more the point, i CAN say what i want on national TV, but will be forced to cop the brunt from the "do gooders". Is this what people REALLY dislike about "PC"?? That someone might dare question their views/opinions? That, should you choose to go around saying and doing what you see fit, someone might actually.... voice their opposition?? In this, a free country??? How dare they?!?!?!?!? In the TV example, well... someone has the freedom to depict a todler driving a car. People have the freedom to complain if they think it's inappropriate. If the advertising standards people buckle after a handful of complaints... who should your frustrations be directed towards... the do gooders who complain or the ASB that pulls an add after a small number of disgruntled do gooders? Well I am going to buck the populast trend here:
1) When I first saw the ad, I though it was funny yet slightly irresponsible, why the hell would you show toddlers driving a car? Monkey see, monkey do. 2) It isn't the end of the free world like some of you drama queens are making it out to be...Do I think it should have been pulled? Yes. Would I have bothered complaining about it? No.

So, 80 complaints can get something you don't like off the telly?
My God, armed with this knowledge, members of this forum, we can:- 1. Get rid of Deal or no Deal 2. Ban all TV interviews with Julia Gillard 3. Remove the Kelly brothers & Skaife from V8 Supercars 4. Make all political broadcasts allowable between the hours of midnight and 12.01am 5. Free up more telly time for car racing by banning all coverage of Britney Spears/Robbie Williams (insert next celebrity here)or anyone that has admitted themselves for "rehab" 6. Make it a criminal offence to have those midnight "phone now to win 14 cents" game shows hosted by that Hotdogs peanut. 7. Immediate scrapping of all Datsun 120Y's, Holden Camiras and Leyland Marinas that belch more oil smoke than the Exxon Valdez. 8. Make old fashioned avgas available for all to enjoy! 9. Ban all singing/dancing talent shows, and put the judges in celebrity boxing matches. Now that I'd watch... 10. Actually spend petrol taxes on roads cigarette taxes on health to help save lives... Oops, back to work....and the real world

No, not the end of the world I agree. But does it have to be in order to warrant a bit of discussion? PS. Regarding your example, you'd be had up for racial vilification in Victoria at least (under law), so I'd argue that you're not free to say that at all actually. |

I thought that commercial was very clever and oh so cute...
I can't blame them for taking it off the air....There must be so many male toddlers must want the car now so they can go pick up toddler chicks n take em to the beach.... Sante Fe's need a sticker saying "Don't laugh..your toddler could be driving this car" OK Seriously what we have here is ANOTHER exmaple of: The minority ruling the majority Do gooders getting off on imposing b/s rules on the rest of society Common sense disapearing and being replaced with....well....rules Question: What in the hell did we used to do BEFORE the do-gooders got so much power and protected us all from such evils as TV ads?? Is this agism? If the male toddler had been 21 and the female toddler 21 would there be such an outcry? No....so it must be agism. They should reshoot the add using 80 year olds...just to make a point. |

I must admit, when I first saw the ad I just knew there was going to be some serial whingers mounting their high horse over it.
I dont agree with them though at all, and I reckon there is at least 80 people that need to be de-sexed asap. Whilst also fun, this ad is BLATANT fantasy, and is utterly unreproducable. Where are these sooks for the Captiva ad which shows a guy driving up the side of a building and free falling through a roof and all manner of other bulls*it? (just for example, not an attack on the Holden ad itself) These people need to reassess their lives and consider if complaining about a farfetched 15 second TV ad is really worth the 25 cents. FFS |

From memory there were 2 (? possibly more I think) young children who died in separate instances in Melbourne over summer. They crawled into unlocked cars left in the sun and inadvertantly locked themselves in.
My understanding is the ad's were pulled mainly due to the risk of further children doing this. In this respect, I have compassion for the parents of those children. These ad's came out after the events. It would be a horrible reminder of an appalling accident. |
