Default stamp duty

Just wondering what the stamp duty is like (i.e. how much) for a 25K car? Thanks.

I believe it is state based. Check your state govt web site out

I know if you're in SA you can use the www.ezyreg.sa.gov.au site and it calculates fees and stuff for you. I see from your location that your in WA though, so check out your state's Road Transport department (whatever it may be called).

heres a link to a calculator on the dpi web site

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1382.asp

I have to pay $838.50 on my recently purchased turbo. Its a bloody rip off. They raise the interest rate as the price of the car go's up. I payed something like 2.7...% for my futura and over 3% on my turbo

We got ripped off big time in WA for stamp duty on cars. I had to pay 2 grand just in stamp duty when I purchased my car in 04.
Ps it will be around a grand for you.

Down here in Vic its $8 for every $200 of the cars price.

ie $25000 = (125 x 200) = 125 x 8 = $1000

Cheers for the link. It works out to be just over 1000 bucks for me. Stamp duty is a rip off :(.

I can't find any BF turbos for around the 25K mark at the moment (except ex-cop cars). I don't really want to get the BA version.

I guess I could rev the SS to 6000rpm and dump the clutch hehe :. I've seen some nice ex-hwy patrol BF turbos for around my budget, I'm just a little worried that they might have been thrashed though.

Already been taken care of i see, but for what it's worth... summary by state...

ACT

Stamp duty on new vehicles in the ACT is charged as follows

3% of the vehicle price inclusive of GST up to $45,000
5% for every dollar over $45,000.

New South Wales

Stamp duty on vehicle purchases is charged as follows:

3% of the vehicle price inclusive of GST up to $45,000
5% for every dollar over $45,000.
Example - a vehicle costing $65,000, stamp duty would be charged at 3% of $45,000 plus 5% of $20,000 (the amount above the $45,000 threshold) = $1,350 + $1,000 = $2,350

Queensland

Stamp duty in Queensland is pretty simple and the cheapest in Australia

2% of the purchase price

Victoria

Victoria has three thresholds for stamp duty charges though the percentage applies to the total market value of the vehicle.

2.5% of the vehicle price up to $35,000
4% of the total price where this lies between $35,000 and $45,000
5% of the total price where this is over $45,000

South Australia

South Australia has a low threshold that must be observed

$60 for the first $3,000 of the purchase price (or part thereof)
4% for every dollar over $3,000

Tasmania

Tasmania has a structure based on three price margins

3% of the purchase price up to $35,000
11% for every dollar between $35,000 and $45,000
4% for every dollar over $45,000

Western Australia

WA has probably the most complicated stamp duty structure in Australia!

2.75% of the vehicle price up to $15,000
A sliding scale is used between $15,000 and $40,000 from 2.75% to 6.5%
6.5% for every dollar over $40,000
