Gday guys, The inevitable happened tonight.... I only have 1 key + remote for my car and I somehow manged to lock them inside with the engine and stereo running fairly loud. Doh!
After trying some old keys I had (I knew deep down they wouldnt work) and calling the NRMA (they wanted $300 to come and get the keys out) I came to the somewhat uncomfortable decision to break the rear quarter glass. Does anyone know how much it should cost to get it replaced? Do I have to get the glass from a wrecker then take it to a glass repair mob or do they get the glass for me? Also do window tinters do just that 1 piece of glass? I have now organised a spare smartlock remote to keep in the house.... hehe

Wouldn't think it would be any more than say $100 to replace, call around and find the best price :-)
Good Luck |

I recently had a quarter smashed on my EB (by some lowlife ***** with nothing better to do in their lives) and O'Briens quoted $160 to supply and replace the glass. I enquired about removing one I had in a door I had, and they said it would cost more, and they would not garuntee any breakages while installing it.
I just jumped on ebay and bought a complete door in the right colour for $50 instead. BenJ

1/4 glass is alot harder to replace than the main window - I tried and failed a few times unfortunately! As someone else mentioned, it can also be cheaper to buy a whole door in the right colour. I sold my last set for $10 or so per door!

$15 from the local wreckers and fit in yourself. its a bit fiddly to get in but should take half hour max. don't forget to remove all broken glass from the inside (glass railings that holds the window).

It's the 1/4 vent window and the bloody thing is bonded in.
I don't even know if you CAN replace it DIY. Which is why I went the whole door route. BenJ

I had to break one on my Mum's VX. Well, I didn't have to but was told it would pop out if I tried hard enough and it just ended up shattering. Bought one for $35 and it just clips in and has 1 screw through the top. Holden FTW. Sundeep |

just be careful next time, u could have tried coat hangers/packing tape, get someone to hold door back, plenty of dodgy methods, some quite effective. next time you may want to consider leaving a window down just enough to get hands in to undo locks.

Well it shouldnt be a drama getting the old one out as its in hundreds of little pieces. Ive rang around and the cheapest price I got is $28 + some sikaflex or similar.
I cant even explain how it locked me out.... I was in the car putting the lock knob back on and when I got out the doors didnt unlock, so when I closed it to check something at the back of the car it was locked. The doors shouldve unlocked when I got out. So there I was with the engine running wasting my precious gasoline, stereo blaring impressing the neighbours and outside getting very dark and cold. I made a hasty decision to smash the smallest window I could find thinking it'd be the cheapest and easiest to replace. Whats the kicker?...... I have spare front and rear door glass in the garage........... DOH!
