Auctions are a great place to buy. I went last June, got my 04 BAmk1 Futura with 38,000km in great condition for $13,600. Had one year of warranty left, in really good condition. Take your time and try a few different auction houses. I went with www.governmentauctions.com.au , they were about $1500-2000 cheaper on average than the pickles cars. Try to find out who the dealers are and bid against them, they wont buy rubbish and theres no emotion so they wont pay more than they need to. Also get the cars later in the day as the keen bidders are mostly gone (or you will have figured out who they are) and some dealers have filled their quotas. And try not to get fixed on one car, there will be a shedload more next week!
As for the phoon, I personally would avoid damaged cars. You don't know how much it could cost to replace, you cant take it anywhere or get a proper quote. Good luck!

I bought my BA from Pickles in 2005. It had a few marks, but nothing major. I was bidding against a dealer, until it got to $25,000 and I got it at $26,000.
Still had 18 months wayyanty on it, and so far I've had a pretty damn good run with it.

Family has bought many cars from Q Fleet Zillmere in QLD.
Seeing as your in SA- I suggest only 1 place www.auctions.sa.gov.au - They even put the prices up for last 8 weeks

My mate at work has been going there for the last 3 months to buy a BA wagon, and every week he's bidding against the big car dealers who obviously re-sell them. Like all auctions though, a lot of luck is involved. |

Brother bought from Manheim Fowles (then Fowles Auction Group) in Altona. Got a 2003 VY Commodore Executive with 61,000kms for $15.1k.
Car has given him no problems. When you go to inspect, take a magnet to make sure the body is still as it should be, and inspect interiors as some cars were not as good as others with plastic bits missing or damaged. So always check properly.
