Driving time from central coast to Sydney

Hey all, looking at a temporary move (maybe one year) with the family to work in Sydney.

Can someone please give me a guesstimation of driving time in peak hour from the cental coast area to the Sydney CBD. Is it worth renting a house up around the central coast some where, or just getting a townhouse in Sydney. whaddaya reckon??

Me, the wife two very young kids and one more on the way. Company car so fuel is not a consideration, but don't want to spend the whole day behind the wheel!!

When I stay at my gf;s in the erina area,it takes me about 45 to 50 minutes to the north shore (Killara) where im working ATM,so add maybe 15-20 minutes to the CBD?

Get a place in Sydney and safe all the hassles of traveling,
plus you get a chance to spend more time with your kids when you get home.

I live on the Coast and HATE going to Sydney. The odd occasion I need to get the airport in the mornings - it can take up to 3 hours in the traffic. Ordinarily this trip should be just over an hour.

As much as I think the Coast is a terrific place to live and bring up kids (dependant on the area of course) there's no way I could recommend the driving and wasted time you'll have to endure by travelling down the freeway or sitting in Sydney traffic.

Get a job on the Coast and the problems solved.

lol add an extra 20 mins from killara to CBD! good luck on that mate, you wouldnt get that out of peak hour. central coast to the CBD in peakhour(6:30-9:30) will take you about ohh, yeah 3 hours. and then you have to find parking unless you have parking in your building. just move into the Hills District. much better here

M2 buses leave just near my house. i catch one at 7:05 and get to the QVB at 10 to 8. $50 for a weekly ticket

Really it depends upon what area of Sydney, from what part of the coast you are talking about, and more importantly what time of day you are travelling.
Peakhour traffic on the F3(aka great northern parking lot) is a mongrel of a thing atm - especially with the roadworks - as many xmas holiday makers are going to discover over the next couple of weeks...
Typically speaking a trip from the Ourimbah roundabout to Wahroongah will take 35-40min as a straight drive. From Wahroongah - Chatswood in offpeak another 15-20, with Chatswood - CBD another 15-20. In peak times that can easily double, & I won't mention F3 closure horror stories just yet.
As an idea - it took me the same amount of time to get home from Karuah, as it did on Monday morn to drive into Willoughby. *driving to Newcastle is a much easier drive - maybe consider job there instead*

Well if fuel aint an issue i would not knock it off straight away. If fuel wasnt an issue i would work and study in Sydney, as it is i drive ages to get anywhere. From the bottom end of the coast between say West Gosford to Ettalong that area around the West edge of Brisbane Waters, I suppose youd be looking at say 75 to 85min to the CBD of Sydney on an good day. It takes me 45 min to get to Wahroonga and thats from the absolute northern end of the coast. From wahroonga to CBD well thats the variable can take 30 min can take an hour.

Train is always as option to a train from Woy Woy to CBD is not a bad option especially if you have a car as a backup on days which Citrail is FUBAR

From Wamberal to my place in South Sydney, I can do the drive 90 Mins. I've done it quicker than that, and I have done it in two or three times longer than that. If you feel like a challenge, get on the Old Road. Lots of fun, but dangerous at the same time. You can join the F3 at the Hawksbury Bridge if you want too.

Peak Hour is worse in terms of driving time. There is always traffic reports about how bad the F3 is.

You are probably best off looking for a house in the North Shore (or inner West) if you are worried about driving time. It is a nightmare getting from the F3 to the CBD in peak hour. I have to do Sutherland to Wamberal on Boxing day. Not looking forward to it.

The old road starts at Hornsby and goes all the way to Somersby. I just realised that the second stretch (if we say that the Hawksbury River is the mid point), is closed, due to a road collapse. Shame, the second part is the more 'serious' part of the road.

section from Calga - Somersby is closed. You can still drive all the way from Hornsby - Cowan - Calga, then head up through Peats Ridge to Ourimbah if ya wanted to.

Well it was only a guess (hence the ?) as i never do it in the morning peak,at 3.00pm it takes me 10-20 min depending on the day to the tunnel.
Id also say go the inner west or south,im near rockdale and I can be in the city in 20min,peak hour at its worst 30min,the m5 east/eastern distributor has taken all the hassle out of the princes hwy.

I had a job at the Central Coast today. At Avoca Beach.
From the City, I reckon 2.5hrs with traffic, could take a little more.

maybe at 2am nugget

. living at kogarah and working at marrickville/newtown it takes me 25 minutes at 5am and thats on a good day.

my missus took me to work one day when my car was at bta motorsports, and she was stunned at how many cars on the princess hwy at 5am.

i cant wait to be able to buy a house on c/coast and get the hell out of sydney

my mum lives on lake macquarie. it takes me (traffic depending through campsie and strathfield) 1hr and 20 minutes from kogarah.

i did it from work at marrickville going the m2, pennant hills rd and freeway at 8am and got to mums at 10am.

i think it depends on where you're coming from on the coast and what time to leave.

i have heard of people leaving wst gosford at 430am to get to the cbd by 7am.

Years ago at 7am i used to be able to get from Surry Hills to Kogarah
& back to Nth Sydney in less than 45 mins.

I'm talking about 1992.

yeah i remember living at drummoyne and working at the casino in '97 sleeping in and leaving home at 3am and getting to work at 3:12am. mind you i wasn't really doing the speed limit either.

they were the good ol'e days

Back then there were much much less cars than now and only red light cameras
plus they have much less cops, unmarked cars and the cops were more
lenient way back in those days.

Speeding is the normal thing and there is much less accidents as well,
as i like the good old days.

Mate,it takes me 45 min to get from here to killara now.
25-30 min to the bridge leaving at 6am.
I do it every day,I get onto the princes hwy at wolli creek..

Back then the princes and stoney creek road were a car park during peak,I used to live in Kingsgrove.
The M5 east has made a huge difference..

When I was managing HardwareHouse (or Bunnings) in Minchinbury, I could leave for work on a sunday morning from Gosford and be in the Minchinbury carpark in less than an hour.
The good ol' days indeed...

Oh yes i used to live in Minchinbury back in 1988,
i can get from home to work in Bankstown in about 35 mins.

I don't think i can do it now if i were to live in Minchinbury.
