Today, while fitting up my new catch can breather system.....I noticed signs of a possible headgasket leak. I'm gonna do some tests on it tomorrow....so fingers crossed :evil_laug ...it will live to fight another day. Especailly considering the E-SEries v's Skyline drag day is coming up :voldar02:

Dave: could this somehow be related to the fact that ur manifold warped also...
perhaps the manifold etc were getting *very* hot during the time the car was in an untuned state?

I heard the ACL gasket was better anyway because a) lower compression and b) you want it to be the 'weak link' rather than having the whole engine go boom boom.
PS Anyone who has done multiple head gaskets, remember that if the job is done properly the first time and the cooling system is maintained, the gasket should last at least 300,000 kms of normal driving. |

Fair point, but you do get sick of people bagging the poor cars when we all know blame should lie with the 'mechanic' reusing head bolts, failing to shave head or block, using inferior gaskets, neglecting the cooling system and so forth.

I couldn't blame any mechanics etc. for this problem (if it is a headgasket), considering the extremes this engine is going thru....lol. Ford didn't design the old EF Engine to do what we're doin with it.

Indeed, my statement was more a general one. I would consider the ACL gasket though, Kyle Hopf recommends.
