This country/world has been one of 7 day trading for a very long time now.
Gone are the days when you work Monday-Friday and spend the weekend in the backyard with friends and family. Having Saturday as a public holiday will benefit a large percentage of workers across this country and allow them to remember and celebrate the amazing effort our fore-fathers went to to ensure that not only we had a free country where we can have these benefits, but that other less fortunate countries could have the same liberties. If you are somebody who is lucky enough to only work Monday-Friday, then you should already be thankful that there are people who for-go their weekends with family to serve yours 52 weeks of the year. |

The issue about people working on a Saturday and getting time off because there is no Moday holiday is invalid. Regardless of whether there is a Monday holiday the shops are shut on the 25th, at least until 1.00pm. Should the march now include honouring and giving thanks to people who work on weekends? "thankful that there are people who for-go their weekends with family to serve yours 52 weeks of the year." ............you have to be kidding |

It's a day of rememberence not an excuse for a day off . to give an alternative day off when it falls on a weekend cheapens the day
to demand a day off is just plain un australian

I was never doubting the need for remembering the heroes who made this country great. I have 3 generations lost in the first 2 world wars. And I NEVER said anything about everyone "honouring" people who work weekends. I was trying to make the point that an argument for a weekday off when ANZAC day falls on a weekend is moot because society trades 7 days a week and the fact that nobody (bar hotel workers & TABS?) will be working before 1pm Saturday should be enough to stop any argument. |

Funny thing is, soldiers dont get ANZAC day off because they are always doing a march somewhere - wether they like it or not.

Does this mean that most business's will be closed tomorrow because tomorrow is the 25th, or is it standard Saturday style trading?

I'm not sure whats happening here in Canberra. I can only assume given Monday is a Public Holiday, it's BAU on Anzac Day. Which seems a little backward. Commemoration should happen on the actual day, not 2 days later. Having said that, I'm taking the Public Holiday with no complaints :
