Jack the car up with the sissor jack, then put the ramp under the wheel and lower the car back down, thats what I used to do, I HATE driving onto ramps.

Me too! Its easy, get a mirror happening or something.

Dont do it in a front wheel drive car though. I tried in the mini and shot the ramps halfway under the car. Nice and stable for the engine removal :P :

why can't you get under your car? i change my oil without jacking the car up and its on superlows... isn't really that hard. otherwise just jack up one side to make it a little easier to slide under

You'll need a bottle with a hose on it or something to get the old diff oil out and new diff oil out... since the plug is towards the top of the diff.. it won't just drain out like the engine.

Did you just use your scissor jack or did you use your ramps aswell?? Try not to rely on just the jack coz they are quite unsafe and i've already busted two of mine (luckily i had another 4 stands under the car at the time). If you have absolutely no other choice, chuck a tyre under the chassis rails aswell when you get under.

I'm not the only one hear who have had scissor jacks break...

Scissor jack held up fine, gave it a bit of a shake see if it moved at all, it was fine... i usuallyw chuck a tyre underneath but was only under there for a second... the jack is in pretty good nick aswell, what happens when they fail? :S
ebmanul: I've only had a quick look but there is a fill plug half way up and im fairly sure that i've seen the drain plug sitting at the bottom...

i did my oil that way, then my dad started playing with the engine with me still under it and the car started to wobble, kinda scary when all that is not under the car are your legs

Obvisouly ben... there was enough room for me to get under without jacking it, but jacking it gave me room to move my arms around lol...
what i meant was what mechanically fails? the thread or what?

Or when i drive up on ramps i just drive straight into the driveway, with my wheels straight. Then place the ramps at the very edge of the tyres, and then slooowly drive up, and get out and check every little bit to make sure the ramps arent moving.

Hasnt failed me yet..

james sprint's sell a pump that scews onto all standard oil bottles. they're around $16.
buy one of them. jack up the car and put axle stands under the BODY, not the diff. that way the diff hangs down and the filler hole is easy to get to.
if you dont have axle stands go and buy a cheap pair. is one thing having space to crawl under the car when its on its wheels, but if it drops from any height (i.e. off a dodgy scissor jack) the suspension will compress, and the car will compress you.
