In my experience I've found the 8 to be cheap to insure, not bad on fuel and a better performer than most worked auto 6s in the E-series club except for a few. I've even beaten a turbo 6 on a few occasions :

In the E series there shouldn't really be much question about it the XR6 was a better car all round, handling, performance the lot. The XR8 was slow and heavy and although still a nice car would not be the pick I would make.

Mr sparkle I agree sixes back then where the way to go and My old man had a 200kw xr8 au2 auto that was a gutless wonder so I can imagine what the earlier versions are like. my MANUAL! key word te50 has awesome top end all the way up to a heady 6200rpm cutout. It also has twice as many kays as his old car.

I Have Owned My Efii Xr6 From New.if You Are Going To Buy A Xr6 Make It A 5 Speed, As The Performance To The Auto Is Big. With 100000km On The Clock, My Stock Xr6 Gets Around 11l Per 100k City (with The Misses Driving) And Has Got 7.2l Per 100k On The Highway. My Father Used To Own A Xhii Xr8 185kw,a 5speed,a 3inch Exhaust And Just Over 100000km On The Clock. We Draged And The Xr6 Won Down The 1/4, Swap Cars And Dad Won In The Xr6 (with A Very Good Start From Me In The Xr8). Now He Drives A Ba Xr6!!!

Ok, so lets throw up a hypothetical. You're building a car from the beginning with the goal of a 12 second timeslip and/or 300rwkw.
Starting point of I6 (well proven here on ff) or 8? What would you choose? |

Sprints are Windsors, Clevos haven't been made since 1982.

Nope all V8's EB-AU are windsors. The last clevo (bar 351 EAGT) was in the XE ESP.

EA GT was a 351 Wheezer ;)
Ford made the same mistake in the sale broucher, they listed the Sprint engine as a Cleveland. But it's certainly not. |

Sorry to correct you Steffo, but ELII only had 402Nm. Having 2 ELII XR8's and loving the looks of them, and the upgrades in handling, they are the pick of all E Series cars in my opinion. My ute, with minimal mods can still hold its own with Gen III cars, due to weight. My sedan is just an amazing car, and even though its only just hit 80 000k I have never had a drama with it, and when we pulled the motor out, just for mor power, the bores were immaculate, bearings like new.... They seem to have held up well in resale too, and were only produced in relatively small numbers, so disirability will always be there.... |
