Default A few cheap mods I've done

Hi Focii. I dont have a lot of dough at present, and although I love my '08 CL pov' pack, I would like to bling it up a little.

Some of you may have noticed I do like to trawl Ebay for bits and pieces, in OZ, the UK and even the US.

Here are a couple of really cheap additions I've made to make life a bit nicer.

1/. Rubber coin change mat. (factory) From Ebay UK. AUD$1.98 + AUD$2.98 postage! Always wondered what that hole was for!

2/. Sunvisor lights. (factory) From Ebay UK. AUD$1.98 + AUD$9.24 postage!

3/. Had an old NOKIA CK7 car kit with blutooth. I have a Blackberry, and it works a treat! Placed the volume/button next to demister button temporarily. Works good. Probably keep it there.

4/. First crap attempt at blinging door handles. Brushed silver overlay. Been on strong in all this horrific hot weather we've been having. Gonna try this stuff elsewhere in the car too. JFTR I have a genuine set of chromed handles comming from the UK as I type. You guessed it... AUD$1.98, postage AUD$12.98 Not bad.

Next cheapie mod is to pull all vents out, take ring off, spray with chrome spray and clear over the top, and put back in.

Anyway, thanks for viewing. Keep you posted when a few more low cost goodies arrive in OZ.

Nice work Leakey.
I always think it's these sort of mods that give the most satisfaction.
Can't wait to see more

A cool little trick with those little lights behind the visor is that they turn themselves off when you push the visor back up.

My gf discovered this, much to her own amusement. :

Hey Leakey, nice work. What was involved in installing the sunvisor lights? was the indent in the roof lining already there prior to the install?

Yes it was, on both sides. But no wiring loom. I used my own, and wired back to the interior light. I used a patch of masking tape I made to scale as a template, and just cut through with a stanley knife.

One thing to watch for in UK ads is that the little metal backing plates for these lights are there. They form a heat shroud, as well as a dull reflector, but most importantly allow the plastic fronts to clip in to place.

The left and right are the same part. So one switch pushes on towards the windscreen, the other towards the back. That is if you have done it like I have with both switches facing inwards. I guess you could have them both facing one direction? Anyway, the auto off thing when you flip up the visor works well either way.

JFTR I hate the hood lining like nothing on earth. It is so cheap and nasty. Have to be really careful not to score it or bend it. I just found this doing the rear passenger light too.

Speaking of the rear passenger light. Just got it today. GHIA type from LR?
Anyway, put it in without removing anything, bar the front interior lamp.
Pushed through the cable (as usual no wiring loom there for it) with a thin bit of wood
with cable taped to it. Pulled it through, soldered it up to main lamp and voila!

Makes a big difference in light level in back. (doesnt look like it in pic!)
Has separate controls for on off, door. Even fades out to off like main unit.

how did you wire up the rear light? are there already wires or did you tap into the front light? i've got the 3 door lr hatch and ford didn't see fit to install a rear light.

No wires there in mine. I tapped in to the front unit, as I also did with the sun visor ones. For such a nice car its a pretty dismal deletion isnt it?

Yeah thats it Elgreko. You still got that main lamp with map lights for sale?

I may be getting a few bits and bobs from UK. See if I can find a change mat.
Maybe we can come to an arrangement with a few parts?

My alloy door handles should be here next week. (I always say to use the slowest post in order to save a bit of dough.
These are taking ages however...)

Also won a whole rear seat the other day for 0.01c Wierdest auction ever. How do I pay him? He said ahh well, dont worry about it, I was gonna chuck it anyways. I am going to experiment with the seat a bit. Sew in some different materials in the centre (bum) parts. Maybe that XR5 orangy/brown colour?
