There was even 1 year (1983)when moffat and hansford entered 2 RX7's with only the 2 of them as drivers, then retired moffats car on lap 15 when it died, so the crossentering of drivers across team cars was well established that year.
and if we are going to talk about cheating, how about we mention the early years of the V8 supercar series where ford ran light bodyshells and panels. When the stewards worked out what was happening, even replacing all hanging panels with stock panels still left the shells 100kg light, and the only reason it wasn't widely publicised was due to ford threatening to take their bat and ball and go home.

Creative interpreting of the rule is one thing, blatent cheating is another. It has happened all over the world, and will continue to happen.. I seem to recall a nascar that blitzed the field, but turned out to be 7/8 scale, toyota corollas were banned for a year over an "indiscretion" with their engines...

Is there a rule now for the V8 Supercars stipulating if your car fails you can't get in another one?

That particular loophole was closed many years ago.. the car you enter in is the car you race, there is no car hopping midrace, although I'm not sure on what the cutoff date for picking the car is...

The "get every advantage out of the rules" has been in sport virtually since sports began. engine specs for example, tolerance of +- x%, of course every engine builder is going to go + X % rather than go under. some have come undone when the teamns outsmart themself. IIRC the EH S4 had issues with the wheelnuts not being able to be tightened enough using the standard wheel brace (as per the rules)

At present SBR are building cars (and engines, see 888) to get the most out of the rules, previously it was HRT doing it
