Exclamation Sucking a Fishermans Friend Could Get You In Trouble

Ananova:
Sucking a Fishermen's Friend could get you into trouble

Police in Germany are warning motorists that sucking a Fishermen's Friend could get them into trouble.

It comes after a 24-year-old driver was found to be over the legal drink-drive limit during a routine control in Munich.

He was taken to the police station where blood tests found he had no alcohol in his system.

The man was released after officers found the strongest thing he had taken was a Fisherman's Friend.

Forensic doctor Thomas Gilg said the essential oils contained in the throat sweets reacted in the same way as alcohol on hand-held breathalysers.

He said in tests they found just three of the mentholated sweets could cause a motorist to test three times over the legal limit.

Reminds me of a joke I once heard.

Bloke goes to the doctor and says he has a bit of a sore throat, so the doctor suggests he tries sucking some life savers.
He comes back 2 days later:
Him: Doctor, this sucking life savers thing isn't working.
Doctor: Hmm, try sucking a fishermans friend instead.
Him: I don't think so.... I'm in enough sh*t as it is!

Mouth wash, mouth spray and those listerine pocket strips will all make your BAC reading go through the roof on the PBT. But by the time you get to the evidentary breath test, it should be back to normal.

I call utter crap.

I've had a Fishermans Friend mouth lozenge 1/2 dissolved on my tonuge while stopped at a breath test. Performed the test - and got put on my way. I had had about 3 lozenges that day (I find that they reduce the symptoms of hay fever and colds).

In my direct experience i've had no issue what so ever.

Cute title.

Ya apparently mouthwash, etc will take you over the limit on the hand held devices.

We have breathalysers at work in the messrooms. With any of those breath lozenges, we often have competitions as to who gets the highest reading.

Check-em-quik were what the black things were, and yes they apparently stopped making them because of the breath tests. I still have a tube from about 20 years ago. (tasted like aniseed)
